What year, in your opinion, had the best single year for movies?

I'm going with 1994.

The Lion King

Forrest Gump

Shawshank

Speed

Pulp Fiction

The Crow

True Lies

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Dumb and Dumber

AirHeads

Legends of the Fall

Some GREAT dramas in there, along with a couple great action flicks and side splitting comedies.

Too many dumb movies such as AirHeads, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura. Speed is not a classic.

Since 1990 my two favorites have been Braveheart and Shawshank.

Mine would be Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. I don't think this century has yet produced a GREAT movie.

The year 1939, which remains the most celebrated year in the history of film, had five films in the American Film Institute top 100:

Gone With the Wind (1939) (# 4)
The Wizard of Oz (1939) (# 6)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) (# 29)
Stagecoach (1939) (# 63)
Wuthering Heights (1939) (# 73)

That would be my number 1 year also.

Obviously there are a few other years that had some good ones but I think these were the top years.

Only eight? Okay maybe people just don't like classic movies... Oh well. I thought this might be cool to do... I was wrong.

I believe this thread has been done before. I go with 1994, for me personally it's not even close.
