MAF with a Tom Barrasso throwback mask. Honestly, with those yellow pads, it looks fucking awful!

Didn't MAF have yellow pads years ago and realized it made it easier for the shooters to see the openings? Glad he went back.

I thought the same thing. But then I realized that it was probably just an ill-conceived excuse, and that doesn't actually happen.

Still, it could be true, I suppose, just thinking about it intuitively (on a quick glance, white pads might not be as distinct against the ice, making space and pad blend together), and I'm not sure why he would bother moving away from white pads in favor of something hideous anyway.

I was thinking about this last night at practice. We had 3 goalies on the ice, two in White/black (primarily white) pads and one in Blue/Red pads.

The optical illusion is the kid in Blue/red's pads looked smaller and there was clearer definition of the ^ between his feet. I don't know the shooter's mindset, but I imagine it's slightly easier to "aim small/miss small" when it's much easier to see what you're trying to miss. Or it could just be mental, the pads look smaller, so the goalie looks smaller.

I smell an advanced stat coming on...
