I know, a draft need at least several years to truly evaluate how well it went. When I say this is the best draft yet so far from Pace, I'm saying at least on paper it looks like his strongest one to date. Certainly the first three selections. I see two definitive starters in Smith and Daniels and either a starter or a major contributor off the bench in Miller. The remaining four, while not necessarily screaming out as being potential starters, all seem to have a solid chance to at least make the 53 man roster. What I'm reading in the early reports is that Joel Iyiegbuniwe - heretofore I am going to refer to him by his nickname, 'Iggy', screw trying to spell that each time - should immediately contribute on ST. I'm a bit surprised that Pace waited until Rd 6 to address the EDGE position, but as he stated, his approach was BPA over positional need. Guess he just wasn't crazy about this year's crop of EDGE players in general.

Round 1: Mitchell Trubisky (QB), North Carolina
Round 2: Adam Shaheen (TE), Ashland
Round 4: Eddie Jackson (S), Alabama
Round 4: Tarik Cohen (RB), North Carolina A&T
Round 5: Jordan Morgan (OL), Kutztown Univers

Best draft for Pace. This year looks real good too but the QB draft can't be topped.

That's the draft that setup our base to build on top of. Obviously, if Trub pans out - nothing will be more important than finding the QB.

This draft will be the one remembered for vaulting us back into relevancy.

I think Miller is going to be a monster. Everything about that kid screams beast to me. If he was a few inches taller, he'd have been regarded as the top WR in this class. He just performs, look at how he dominated in college.

This isn't some project. This is a guy who works his freaking arse off and is already polished. His confidence and attitude excites the hell out of me (and I don't normally buy into that cliche'd nonsense).

AB is 5'10, with the same build, had polished route running skills, played in the MAC and ran 4.47. This kid is 5'11 with the same attributes, work ethic, played in Conference USA and ran a 4.46.

I would not be stunned if this kid winds up being a god damn gold mine. Pace/Nagy wanted this guy so badly. This makes the Meredith move, oh so clear to me now.

No argument from me, none whatsoever.

Gotta say in retrospect, that was a pretty good draft too. Of course we have the benefit of them having one year on the books. Mine was based on 'paper', meaning how they compare at the time of each draft. Also, Shaheen still has to show he belongs. A 2nd round pick should at the very least be thought of as a major contributor, if not outright starter. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE his potential, but as we all know, potential + 25 cents = two bits. I won't go quite so far as to say this is a make or break year for him, but he definitely has to show a hell of a lot more this go-around.

I'm with you. Not trying to sound too down on the kid. Coming from a small program, he had a large learning curve. But the fact is a 2nd rounder should be considerably more productive than he was, injury notwithstanding. Still, I'm far from jumping off the Shaheen bandwagon. I expect him to have a much better Year 2.

The pectoral injury in Cincy (on a TD catch) really derailed what looked to be a promising/breakout final month-plus of the season.

He was a bit of a project pick fosho. Never expected to play much in year one, with Miller, Sims and even Daniel Brown(that's a real guy, right?) He is a freak of nature tho, size and athleticism-wise. A year or two in an NFL weight program, and he could be silly good.

I think you would be correct if Shaheen was a WR. However, with TE's - the first year is always kind of considered a wash and more educational than anything.

Not arguing that philosophy per se, but I guess I'm just old school. To me, the first two rounds should always be taken with the thought that they will be major contributors and possible, if not likely starters, and this goes double when you're drafting as a team with a losing record. But again, I assure you guys that I'm still very much on the bandwagon with this kid. I never give up easily on any Bears player.

Shaheen was arguably a bit of a reach, tho I did see a few drafts having him ranked fairly high. I think he went in the earlky 3rd in our SportsHoopla Mock draft.

Pace changed his draft strategy this year. Last years draft was about the future and this years draft is the future. Last draft was about guys that would be good in a year or two. This draft we got guys that can start day one. Perfect storm stuff man.
