Now at the Cornerback position you have...

- Clements
- Hall
- Jason Allen
- Terence Newman
- Adam Jones

(all five former 1st round picks)

- Brandon Ghee
- Rico Murray

Obviously the latter two are of little to no factor but does this eliminate the desperate need for a 1st round CB? Yes...yes...I realize Newman is a 1000 years old, as is Clements but could you wait until later in the draft to address it?

Hope he isn't playing CB. What does your S position look like? He should be moved over to FS, might be good there. at CB he is done.

Aside from Reggie Nelson, the position group is sub par....and that's being polite.

Ugh.... Let's not start this again. No Terrance Newman cannot play safety. There is nothing in his game that suggests he could.

Of course, he can't play corner anymore either, so I suppose the point is moot. Stupid, waste of money signing.

How long until Hobs nicknames the group of former first rounders as the 'fab five' or 'five firsts' or something equally embarrassing.

I've been watching every game he played in since the day he was drafted. I know that he can't play CB anymore, so you better hope the plan is to convert him to something else.

I was hoping our plan was to not sign him at all. Now that the damage is done, I'll just hope we can convert him to "former pro" Terrance Newman.

He kinda already has...

The Raiders ended last season leading the NFL with 14 first-round draft picks on their 53-man roster, but the Bengals could end up with as many as 15 on their offseason roster by the time this year's first round is over on April 26.

The Bengals have signed or re-signed four first-rounders in this month of free agency and as of Tuesday afternoon were still trying to get another one done in Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman. He was the fifth pick in the 2003 draft when defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer had the same job in Dallas.

Safety Reggie Nelson (2007), cornerback Jason Allen (2006), defensive lineman Jamaal Anderson (2007), and defensive end Derrick Harvey (2008) have done deals this offseason, joining three other former first-rounders that signed to the defense in the last two years. Cornerbacks Nate Clements (2001) and Adam Jones (2005), as well as outside linebacker Manny Lawson (2006) all started last year's playoff game.

If the Bengals keep both first-round picks (17 and 21), they'll be with the No. 1s from the five previous drafts in cornerback Leon Hall, outside linebacker Keith Rivers, right tackle Andre Smith, tight end Jermaine Gresham and wide receiver A.J. Green.

A first-round pick isn't a lock to stay anywhere more than five years. Hall is in the minority in that '07 class, where 19 of the 32 first-rounders are either on other teams or free agents.

Notes: First things first

Be prepared to be disappointed boys, I would bet that almost assures no CB in the 1st round of this draft.

The Bengals motto concerning the CB position is obviously 'quantity over quality'.

But on the bright side, at least now we have 2 guys who will make a seamless transition to S and bolster the secondary.

Lewis on Newman: Legit skins on wall, still has athleticism and speed. Had best years with Zimmer in Dallas. He's a pro.

Might this also be a subtle suggestion that we have so many first rounders not because they're mostly flops and other teams didn't want them, but because 1st rounders just don't stick around one place long; hence, they were great talent signings by the Bengals and bodes well for our future?

Or maybe I'm just giving him too much credit.

I must say, this part of Zimmer really bugs me. Ever since he came around, we've remained busy grabbing his guys from his days in Dallas and Atlanta.

Zimmer is a good coordinator. It doesn't surprise me that a player may have had his best days under him. But let the past be the past.

Zimmer was in Dallas 6 FUCKING YEARS AGO!! Who cares if Newman was good then.
