I think the first thing they did was fit him for a ring.

In some ways, I like this approach.... Bunch of coaches that want to make their mark in the league. Not choosing the same failed coaches that have been given multiple chances. Maybe they catch lightning in a bottle and give new hope to the staleness that defined the Marvin Lewis Bengals.

On the other hand, you know there will be growing pains.... An experienced coaching staff is going to clown these guys. Then again, our division has Tomlin and now a guy named Freddie as head coaches, so maybe it won't be all that bad?

Never heard of him. Read his resume. Not overly impressed. But once again, when it comes down to it, the players have to make the plays regardless of who is calling the plays. So in order for the players to maximize their production, we just need a coordinator that is going to cater to the talents of our players on defense. I am honestly not that worried about offense. The defense scares me a little bit though.

We will see what happens. Can't make a snap judgement befor he even calls a game plan for 1 single game. *shrugs*

So was John Fox not a good fit for Taylor, was he not interested in the job, was he not even really considered for an interview? I mean, what happened there? Fox could have been huge for Taylor.

Right now it looks like Taylor is just hiring from familiar faces he worked with in the past, and I know a lot of coaches do that, not just the young ones like Taylor, but I think it is a slippery slope assuming you know enough to hire a guy that is not going to be able to help you with your job abd take care of the other side of the ball, the side that the coach knows little about.

Here is hoping he pans out.

I think Fox wanted to run a 3-4....no way this team is built for that in any way shape, or form.

As for Del Rio (who I liked) if they didn't think it was a good fit, then it wasn't a good fit. No reason to force something.

Sucks the way it all unfolded, but it is what it is. Have to see how it works out, now.

Glad they were able to land their 7th choice for the job.

Hobs will sell it like this was some shrewd move and he was the guy they wanted all along.

He was more like the 7th interview. Taylor has a specific type of guy he is looking for and he obviously didn't see it in Del Rio or Fox. Then he requested interviews with guys that already had good paying jobs doing what they would be doing here and they turned down the interview. No way to tell if those guys were right for the job either as they never got to the interview process.

It may help Taylor actually knows him and what he is about. They may have a way to work together already that would have taken some time to get under control if it was from scratch. Plus, with the combine coming up, now is the time to have a coordinator so they can head over there and evaluate as well.

Taylor is a young coach, and Anarumo may not have an extensive coordinator history, but he has had a good coaching background and you never know when you are going to strike gold. The one thing that does stand out to me with the interviews from Anarumo is the fact he doesn't think his scheme fits all. He wants to customize it to the players strengths, which is why Taylor wanted him because he has had a background in both the attacking 4-3 we used to run here under Zimmer to a 3-4 he helped coach over several seasons. He knows both schemes of the defense, and that will help him build packages that suits the talents on our defense.

Is it going to take off out of the gates? I seriously doubt it. I imagine the defense may struggle a little bit until it gets its footing under them and they proceed to start playing to their abilities.

I'm happy with the head coach hire and I think Calahan hire at OC was terrific..... So I'm trying to be optimistic.

But.... What's with us hiring the entire Miami Dolphins coaching staff of 5 years ago? I mean, were they any good? I certainly don't remember them being good.

Position coaches that were thrust into interim coordinator positions. Taylor is young, he is smart from all accounts, he is personable, I enjoy his press conferences much more already. We have all been screaming for change. This is our change. This is a younger staff with a lot of energy and new ways of doing things, especially on the analytical aspect of the game. I am willing to give them all a chance to see what they can do before starting to judge.

Supposedly, Anarumo was on our coaches to interview list all along, just didn't interview him until recently.

I think Taylor wanted that big name on his defense like a Del Rio or Fox, but their systems and their vision didn't mesh with his. So the big names left the room.

At least Anarumo didn't wind up being Dom Capers. Thank our lucky stars on that.

I like Zac Taylor. I like that we are rolling the dice for a change.

However, I’m not ecstatic about this staff. Callahan is a good hire. However, I question the judgment of spending 30 minutes at a presser discussing character and culture...then immediately hiring the OL coach from the Bullygate Dolphins..

Followed by the emphasis on finding a veteran defensive mind to coach the defense...not Taylor’s area of expertise. Only to settle for the DBs coach from the Giants.

It could work out. I hope it does. But I’m not getting my hopes up.

The 2019 Bengals season is going to be won or lost on the offensive side of the ball. A modest investment on the line via free agency and the draft could set them up for success. If everyone is healthy, they could be a top 10 unit and carry a below-average D. They just can't suck like the 2018 Bengals D. We'll see.

Now's about the time I wish he were the Patriots.com writer.... He could really help the negative PR around Bob Kraft.

Hobs is doing Hobs stuff right now:

Hobson's Choice: Pointing To a New Dey

It's going to be a great offseason.

I don’t read much Hobspin anymore. But just for shits and grins and checked this one out..

The usual BS. They won’t keep Dennard because they have a couple 5th round spares at CB waiting to set the world on fire. No worthwhile FAs will be signed at the expense of precious compensatory picks... yada yada.

Also talks about how Burfict has been “cursed” by injuries, but conveniently leaves out how many games he’s missed from suspensions...

I also like how Geoff got triggered by the one guy who was being a sarcastic prick lol.

new coaches = ready made excuses.
be patient, this takes time, rebuilding has it's rewards, we're going to win the superbowl if we stay the course, blah blah blah.
don't think I'll watch any complete games again for awhile
