I don't know if it is fortunate or unfortunate, but I think the success of our drafts recently has prevented Mike Brown from participating in FA really, because huge contracts are upcoming for one of our DE's (Johnson/Dunlap) and huge contracts for Atkins and Green are forth coming as well, because they are so good, all guys we drafted.

So you can say what you want about our drafts, but we have been nailing it about as well as anyone in the league. I would like to hear who is doing so much better than us the last few years.

Just saying.

What makes you so positive we're really going to resign ANY (I cant even get over how ambitious ALL is) of these guys? Is it because 'we sign our own?' Just like Andre? Just like JJo?

Keep telling yourself Dandy is a Pro-Bowl caliber qb.

And potential means nothing until the on-field production warrants the praise you are giving those 3 guys. All three are far from pro-bowl caliber

You do realize Andy Dalton has already make the Pro Bowl, right?

You do realize what the word 'caliber' means, right?

Let's face facts. He will never be a top 10 qb in the league.

Micheal Johnson and Kevin Zeitler are Pro Bowl caliber players already and their on the field production states that. Johnson had 11.5 sacks last season while Zeitler was one of the best guards in the League his rookie year. Those are the facts! Now I'll admit Carlos Dunlap has underachieved up to this point but he has the physical attributes that would suggest is he were to ever stay healthy and focused he could be one of the best DE's in the League.

Whether we resign any of the guys we draft has nothing to do with how well we draft. those are completely separate things. You have to separate the 2 when you are looking at how well we draft.

I don't think there is anyway Mike Brown can actually get away with not signing Green and Atkins. They are two of the most popular players on this team outside Palmer and Johnson when they first came here. I just do not see a scenerio in which Mike Brown doesn't pay these two guys at least, especially since he is publicly saying, I am saving money specifically for these two players.

The resigining thing wasn't talking about the draft, hence the quot. It was in reference to Crash again giving the Bengals a free pass in never doing anything in FA because he's fully amerced in the 'we sign our own' kool-aid.

Do you know what the word means? You stated, "Keep telling yourself Dandy is a Pro-Bowl caliber qb" and I pointed out the fact that he has already made the Pro Bowl. Being a "Pro-Bowl caliber qb" and a "top 10 qb" are not one in the same.

I would agree with those 2. However, Dunlap, Johnson, Smith, Dalton...obviously all of those guys aren't going to get signed. This is still Mike Brown we're talking about.

He was an alternate. The 4th best in the AFC (thank you AJ), which puts him near the 10th best qb even in his best season. Lets not forget about the 2012 versions of Rogers, Brees, Manning, Newton

Wasn't factoring in Andre -- Though I'll give it to you given his high PFF grade.

Interesting though that for a guy that's the 'best at his position,' he doesn't get any action on the market.

I am not drinking the koolaid so much as seeing, I would rather keep the big name guys we have than sign big names in FA and lose our guys.

Green and Atkins were the only ones I thought Brown HAD TO sign, the other are a secondary sign if he feels he has enough money to do it.

I don't like never being involved in FA, but at this point in time, the way we have been drafting, it is giving MIKE BROWN MORE OF AN EXCUSE not to participate in FA. It isn't that I don't want him to.

Here were the other non-QBs picked in the top 12 in AJ Green's class..

Von Miller
Marcell Dareus
Patrick Peterson
Julio Jones
Aldon Smith
Tyron Smith
JJ Watt

Nobody on the face of the earth could have screwed up that pick as long as they didn't reach for a QB. props for not reaching on a QB..

I also give Zimmer a bunch of credit for the good run they've had on DL...

that's the beginning and end of the good drafting imo.

Kapernick was picked one spot after Dalton.

Andre Smith is as advertised.. a great run blocking RT, which is generally a reach in the top 10. he's also lived up to all of the negative aspects of his reputation.. poor conditioning, lazy, etc

The only part I disagree with, is 'with the way we have been drafting.' In my eyes, we are drafting as any team should given the picks we have. We just aren't completely shitting the bed and drafting total bums to the extent we were in the late 90s and early 00s. Check the list futballiscool provided. It was almost impossible to get a 'miss' in that draft. That doesn't mean we're drafting well, it just means it is getting a little better, to the point it should, and should be supplemented with proper FA signings. I would still call our 'great drafts' of late, fairly average across NFL standards

Then prove that because I have a hard time believing that.

Cant do any searching now because I am finishing up at work, then Reds/Nats tonight :-)yahoo:), but Aldon Smith and Colin Kaepernick in one draft sounds similar to any of the Bengals.

Since 2008 they have drafted 6 pretty good players. Iupati, Anthony Davis, Crabtree, Bowman, Smith and Kaepernick.

the closer the draft gets, the more the time space continuum bends to make the Bengals stupider than chimpanzees smoking Meth.
