Theyve had about 3 good drafts in a row, I expect them to totally fuck up a draft soon, I mean draft some Jerome Simpson/Keiwan Ratliff type picks, I totally expect them to draft Teo

Yea, they should at least ask the draft picks if they would like a joint just to test them out.

If they pick Lacy in the 1st, I'm giving that pick a big fat F.

They are too stupid to do a mock draft.

They counted out QB and LB
Why? If Dalton isn't here forever, if no one selects a QB ahead of us, then we have our pick of his successor, he can sit on the bench until Dalton plays out his contract and then go in when he's ready and we won't have to complain about his limp wristed arm again.

Why not LB? Harrison is old. Mauluga is still horrible. Harrison's roid use is going to catch up with him sooner or later in the form of an injury, if Burfict goes down, the LB depth takes a big hit. If we are looking at an attractive pick, then we take it.

Naw, I think those days of Mike Brown fucking up a draft are over as it appears he has turned the reigns over to Duke Tobin, who's running the show as our de facto GM.

excerpt~

As he did back in February, Lewis last week extolled the work of director of player personnel Duke Tobin. Pointing to the decision of Bengals president Mike Brown to give Tobin more influence in the planning and mechanics of the draft room a few years ago, Lewis believes they have used the art of cross-checking to the utmost.

With the hiring of two young area scouts in Robert Livingston (the Southeast) and Steve Radicevic (the West), it has freed up Tobin to cross-check the top 40 or so schools as well as coordinate the big-picture philosophy.

"I think Mike has put Duke basically in charge and Duke Tobin has done an outstanding job in orchestrating the whole thing and I think that's been great," Lewis said in a sit-down with beat reporters on Friday.

We have had some good players come out of the last 3 or 4 drafts, but aside form those guys, I wouldn't call them 'great drafts' by any stretch.

2009 (11 picks) - A.Smith, Rey, Michael Johnson, Huber, B.Scott
2010 (9 picks) - Gresham, Dunlap, Atkins
2011 (8 picks) - AJ, Dandy
2012 (10 picks) - Zeitler, Sanu, (jury out on Kirkpatrick....Marvin Jones??)

these are main contributors in the last drafts. To me, the Bengals 'drafting so well' lately, is mostly just a product of our No.1 pick not turning out to be a huge bust, as was to be expected for a while.

There are definitely good players, but considering our team blatantly ignores FA, we need to be even better at drafting, and I would still call most of these drafts decent, not great. You'd hope to get some more value out of them, especially considering how many picks we've had.

Couldn't agree more.... I think our drafting is largely overrated by our fans. I keep hearing the "we had four pro bowl players from the 2010 and 2011 drafts." While this is obviously true, I think it's misleading. Two of the pro bowl players were Dandy and Gresham - Both made it in after A LOT of injuries and it would be generous to call either above average for their positions.

If you want to say they aren't great, give me some comparisons to great drafts. We drafted the best DT in the league, the best WR or at least the 2nd best in the league, 2 good DE's, the best RT in the league and a really good up and coming OG. I'm not sure how you get a whole lot better than that.

I will look through some other drafts when I am not at work, but with the number of picks we've had, and the fact that we don't do anything in FA, you would have hoped for better drafts. I think last year's draft was grossly overrated. I don't think it should be beyond expectation to have a guy who is tops in the league or a potential pro-bowler that you take as your top pick.

We had 11 picks, 11! in 2009 and we got a good RT we're not resigning, a decent DE (when he actually plays), and a punter.

2010 we had 2 good players drafted, and a 'contributor' who is arguably the worst in the league at his position

Can you name anyone we drafted in 2011 aside from AJ or Andy?

If we are going to ignore FA to the extent we do, we're going to need to find contributing talent in the later rounds of the draft, and we have only done that once (Atkins) over the last 4 years.

What you're forgetting is that there are 3 Pro Bowlers (Green, Dalton, Atkins) with a possible 3 more (Dunlap, Johnson, Zeitler) soon joining them. I say that makes them great drafts.

You can't judge our draft differently because of free agency. You have to look at the draft as just the draft. How many other teams drafted 3 players that are the best at their position or at the top 2 at their position in that time frame?

Keep telling yourself Dandy is a Pro-Bowl caliber qb.

And potential means nothing until the on-field production warrants the praise you are giving those 3 guys. All three are far from pro-bowl caliber

This is very bold. I agree with Atkins. AJ is no doubt a top-5 receiver, and could very well be tops with a better QB, however, you cannot say without a doubt he is the best in the league at his position. And I am assuming you are talking about Andre, who played well last year, but is not the best RT in the game, nor was he his previous 2 seasons.

We had 38 picks in 4 years, many of them early. I would hope to God we could find a couple studs. The problem is, with 38 picks, you would really hope for more, or at least guys that contribute

I disagree that Dunlap is near pro-bowl caliber. He has his moments, but he also has games where he completely disappears. I expect either him or Johnson to walk after next season..... And Zeitler is hard to judge. What data are you using to evaluate him?

Which three players are you talking about? I have AJ and Atkins, but I can't come up with a third.

Andre was the highest rated RT in the league and year before last he was outstanding too. AJ is the 2nd best WR in the game.

I don't know if it is fortunate or unfortunate, but I think the success of our drafts recently has prevented Mike Brown from participating in FA really, because huge contracts are upcoming for one of our DE's (Johnson/Dunlap) and huge contracts for Atkins and Green are forth coming as well, because they are so good, all guys we drafted.

So you can say what you want about our drafts, but we have been nailing it about as well as anyone in the league. I would like to hear who is doing so much better than us the last few years.

Just saying.
