"Duff Man…Oh Yeah!"
From Espn in:
Brandon Belt, 1B, San Francisco GiantsBrandon Belt carries the weight of being called the next Buster Posey, and the Giants could very well have their latest prize prospect start the season in the minors in order to stall his arbitration clock, just as they did with Posey. GM Brian Sabean wouldn't mind if Belt got more Triple-A at-bats, but Belt is making the choice more difficult by hitting .318 with a homer and six RBIs in his first 22 Cactus League at-bats. There also is no clear-cut favorite in left field, making it easier to insert Belt at first base and move Aubrey Huff to left, a position he's played before. Remember the Giants delayed Posey's 2010 debut in part to get him more work behind the plate. There are no such defensive concerns with Belt, a solid fielder. The Giants may have won the World Series, but didn't clinch a playoff berth until the last day of the season. They got lucky with the Posey move last season, but might not be as fortunate if they stall on Belt.
Hunch: Belt starts the season in the minors, but is called up far earlier than Posey and ends up with the bulk of the starts at first base.
Thoughts?
