If you dont care for the truth, I suggest that you take it up with Pete "It's a contract for a reason" Carroll

Killer job. You've been waiting months for a Seahawk Stumble.

You the man.

Meh...the hawks are one of the few teams that consider a pre-season game a true competition. Me, I dont expect much from it. But for the record, I have no fear seeing the Bronco's face the Weehawks again. I especially look forward to the day when the hawks play without the advantage of steroids/aderall. I think Pete himself is on a little something don't ya think ? I mean besides prune juice.

Not a bad shot at troll smack.
You still need polish.

naw...I'm not really that concerned with the hawks to be honest with you...just thought it was funny that after Petey and your GM basically told your boy to man up, they go and give up the goods.

If you believed that the way it has been is the way it will always be, you wouldn't still be a seahawk fan.

Better. You still lost. In more ways than 1.

So the Hawks have standards that their stars can hold out and pay him enough next year that his penalty is null and void? wow, nice standard they are setting.

Do you consider that standing to be above or below the standards of the 9ers regarding Aldon Smith or Cleveland regarding Josh Gordon?
In comparison, me thinks you grasp.

First off what I care about is wrong reporting. They did change up the contract. Yes they didn't just tear it up but they did change the language. Also signing bonus money is spread out over the contract. you can't just pick and choose which years it hits on. So some of that signing bonus money now affects next season. The reason people keep talking about the Seahawks is because Seahawk fans dominate the NFL part of this website so every time something is even mentioned about them 5-6 Seahawk fans respond to every one post by another poster on the subject.

You make that sound like a bad thing. It's not, forums are about conversation, so the more the merrier. Feel out numbered? Go recruit some Bronco's fans to this site and quit complaining about Seahawks fans.

Right, so Seahawk fans dominate this part of the site... and we are in a thread about a Seahawk. :L

I did NOT report anything incorrectly. The Seahawks did NOT rewrite his contract. They changed the language. You may not like that subtle distinction, but that is the legal definition.

This signing bonus was a change of money from next year to this year and likely isn't spread out. I think it counts fully against the cap this year, but in any respect it's $500k. It isn't going to impact their decision in the off season to keep him or dump him. It just doesn't. Again, just making sure the reporting here is accurate.

:suds:

So they change the base salary for the contract, take out in-game bonuses, and added $500,000 in signing bonus completely changing not only his cap hit for this year and next year but added extra money that wasn't there before (by that I mean changing how much he is making this year by pushing the cap hit to next year on some of it)...I guess you can call it what you want.

And as for Harold and your comment I was just explaining to Wizardhawk why so many people on here talk about the Seahawks. I wasn't complaining. I was making a statement. I have no problem when 5 or 6 of you respond. I don't exactly like it when a thread turns into a name calling competition but if there is actual football conversation then bring as many Seahawks fans as possible. I just love talking football no matter what team it is.

And you can keep mischaracterizing it if you like, but it won't change the facts. Bonuses were convereted to guaranteed money. This does NOT add to the cap as he likely would have made all of those anyway. It only hurts the team if Lynch gets hurt and can't play. That's the only scenario where he would have not been paid the first part of the $500,000. As for 1500y, still a likely reachable goal. So that $500,000 was likely anyway. Again, both already would have hit this cap. It's not NEW money. And the extra $500,000 was from next year's base moved to this year. The moved it, not added to it.

The FACT is there is no new money on his contract. PERIOD. End of story.

Ok let me try to break this down one more time for you see if we can understand this. Essentially you are agreeing that some of the money that was supposed to be in the base salary next year has been added to this year. That is new money in the sense that almost all know Lynch is cut after this year so there was no way he was going to see that money. Base Salary is not guaranteed unless you are on the actual roster. So how is that not new money? I guess if he is on the team next year then I would agree that is not new money but pretty much everybody knows what he earns this year is it with the Seahawks.

Also with his 1,500 yards rushing needed for another $500,000. He has done that once in his career and the way it is looking this year he is expected to get less carries than in the last few years. So the idea of him attaining that goal is pretty slim (about a 12% chance he would have gotten it). Throw in he has only had 2 seasons (the last 2) in which he played in all 16 games so even that $500,000 was far from being guaranteed (he has played 16 games 2 of the 8 years in the league so 25% he would have gotten this one). So for him this was playing the odds and realizing there was a good chance he was going to miss out on that $1.5 million extra if he didn't make it guaranteed money for this year.

Throw in you have to think any money spent this year is less money next year for signings. This is why teams love to have a little carry over money heading into the next season and most likely this is $1.5 million less for the Seahawks than what they would have had. Not terrible really considering the level of player you are getting for the year but it is money that could hurt. Now if he plays all 16 games and rushes for over 1,500 yards then really this was a great deal as you got a quality player by really only adding $500,000 in actual "new" money for this past season but if he doesn't then tack on another $1 million that this deal cost the team. Again not a big deal in the grand scheme of things as it is just 1/140th of the cap for next year most likely.
