Nebraska baseball opened the Bearkat Invitational with a come from behind 12-8 victory over Northern Colorado.

Nebraska was down 7-2 going into the top of the 5th. Nebraska broke out with 8 hits and 7 runs in the 5th inning. Then added 3 more in the top of the 9th to win 12-8.

Nebraska had 5 errors but also had 20 hits.

They play a double header tomorrow.

This year will be interesting. Lemke did not pitch well today but he was on a day short of full rest from last week. He will be the friday starter throughout the season so they were just trying to get him on that day after starting last saturday. All last year I was preaching the youth of this team and they are still young. They still only have 5 seniors on this team. It will be interesting to see how this team has grown from the experience they gained last year. Another huge key will be if the NCAA ever gets off their ass and rules on the Logan Ehlers crap that they are stringing him along on.

5 games in can't really judge much on how the rest of the season will go. Historically they use the first few weeks to mix and match things to see what works and what doesn't. They have hit the ball really well so far this season.

Nebraska beat Northern Colorado once again today. They won 3-0. Each team only had 4 hits a piece.

Jon Keller, Matt Freeman, and Brandon Pierce combined for the 4 hit shutout for Nebraska. Keller got the start and struggled finding the strike zone by giving up 5 walks in 2.1 innings but he also didn't give up any hits. Freeman came in and the strike zone wasn't a problem. 7 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Freeman gave up the 4 hits. Pierce came in for the final 1.1 and struck out 2.

Next game is tonight at 6:30pm against the host, Sam Houston St.

Last time I was in California (which as I go on will show how long it has been since I was there) my now wife and I went to an Angels game just to see Erstad play. Dude can flat out swing a stick!!!! I LOVE that he is helping out as our hitting coach. I know I said we can't judge much on the first handful of games but I think it has shown how much of an asset he is.

I also want to add that the MVP of the 1st game had to be C Tolentino, who threw out 3 runners trying to steal 2nd base.

Last time I was in California (which as I go on will show how long it has been since I was there) my now wife and I went to an Angels game just to see Erstad play. Dude can flat out swing a stick!!!! I LOVE that he is helping out as our hitting coach. I know I said we can't judge much on the first handful of games but I think it has shown how much of an asset he is.

Still down 2-0 going into the top of the 5th. Nebraska gets 2 quick outs. Then we decide to start swinging. 3 straight singles followed by 3 straight doubles. Nebraska is now up 5-2 going into the bottom of the 5th.

Nebraska jut gave back 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th. 5-4 Huskers in the top of the 6th.
