You are talking multiple lineups:
The opening day lineup.
The lineup after Julio R is called up.
The lineup after the deadline.

Opening Day
CF Lewis R
SS JPC L
1B France R
DH/RF Haniger R
CF Kelenic L
3B/DH Donaldson R
RF David Peralta L
2B Frazier L
C Raliegh S/Murphy R

Twins owe Donaldson $51.5 million over the next two years. They'd have to eat about $15-20 million of that to make this trade work. I think they would just to be rid of his contract. Toro and Misiewicz go back to the Twins. Lopsided player value? Yes. But, it evens out with the Twins getting out from under several million on a contract on a player on the backside of his career.

Peralta is 34 and in his walk year. The trade is a salary dump from an Arizona team that won't need him next year anyway. The D'Backs aren't going to compete for a while yet. Therefore, we can send them utility players to get the deal done. Dylan Moore. And Julio is the future RFer here, so Peralta may get moved at the deadline or platooned.

What I don't want to see them do is tie up a huge chunk of payroll in Bryant or Story. I don't think either player is worth the money they are expected to command.

Feel like I haven't seen you post in ages, good to see you.

A few thoughts:

Everything I've read seems to indicate that they want to keep Kyle Lewis DHing a majority of the time to take it easy on his knee, so it sounds like unless something changes, Kelenic will be the centerfielder.

The Josh Donaldson idea is interesting, but he would essentially just be a stop-gap and leave us looking for a long-term replacement in the near future. I would say that Donaldson should be a back up plan if the Mariners are unable to sign Kris Bryant or trade for a better answer at third.

I like the Peralta idea, he would be a solid guy to hold down a corner outfield spot until Julio Rodriguez is ready.

Story I agree with because I don't believe he can hit outside Coors. I disagree with Kris Bryant. He would provide a long-term solution at third and can also play OF. I think the contract projections for him are appropriate and I'd actually be happy to overpay for him. The Mariners have a ton of flexibility with payroll and I don't think that adding Bryant would impose any payroll restrictions for the rest of the offseason or the next few years.

Interesting. If the Twinkies are in salary dump/re-build mode, it is a great trade for them, Great for the Padres too as they have an owner with deep pockets and not afraid to spend.

Otherwise, the trade may be a bit fantastical. You rarely see a team giving up three starting position players in the same trade. I'm not saying it is a bad trade, just very rare and therefore very unlikely..

san diego has..Fernando Tatis Jr. 23...they need to go..to playoff...before..there window closes...this trade...help smake that window...bigger

eventually gets them an extra outfield they need.............and adds...to thete minors...
through trade..

national league teams will need DH...guys now...so donaldson..for san diego..is not a liability....but..they still could trade him..
