Cyder
Justin
A Rod/Servino
Price and Mookie Betts.
I have faith.
And still think that the DBacks badly overpaid for Miller. they probably could've gotten one of the indians guys if they were willing to include Swanson.
Ross/2nd half Kemp
Padres might suck this year(nothing new), but I'm at least excited for the season to start.
Idk, but this was egregious. They needed to keep Swanson. Even though I think he's overrated (more Pedroia than Correa), he still could be up this year and help them. And if he plays 2B (because Ahmed is the better SS defensively) then it's even better.
Interesting. Who else qualifies for this distinction...
Giants - Bum/Posey
Marlins - Stanton/Fernandez
Dodgers - Kershaw/Kershaw
Nats - Scherzer/Harper
Mets - DeGrom/Cespedes
Cubs - Arrietta/Rizzo
White Sox - Sale/Abreu
Who am I forgetting?
Swanson is highly overrated. Everyone was talking about how he was one of the worst #1 overall picks in MLB history until we dealt him then all of the sudden everyone collectively decided to jump on his dick.
He won't have half the career Pedroia had. I think he'll be a good every day player that has a long career, but nothing special. He strikes out a ton, had questions marks of his ability to stay at short long term, doesn't have much power upside.
Don't get me wrong, he's a nice prospect, but that #1 overall pick label has grossly overrated him. I'm more upset about losing Ender. We did sell high on him though, we'll see if he can keep it up. I'll miss his base-running and defense a lot.
Either way, I'm OK with it. It's the type of move that has to be made after making a splash for Greinke. It's not like it's some rental SP that's past his prime.
Miller is 25, about to enter his prime with 3 years of control left. I think he'll be a very nice #2 starter behind Greinke.
My list, with their '15 rankings...Going back to this… I'm too lazy to complete the list myself but I wonder which duo came the closest to actually doing it?
Last year Greinke and Goldy both finished 2nd in their respective races of MVP and Cy Young, albeit on different teams.
They'd need a LOT to go their way to contend(Kemp playing great for the full season, Myers staying healthy, bounce back from Shields/Cashner, Rodney pitching like he did with TB and not like he did with the M's, etc.) so I won't expect it, but I also didn't expect it in 2010 and they nearly won the division. If the Padres don't contend I'll be rooting for your Dbacks to take the division, fuck the Giants and Dodgers! You still gotta solid rotation… Kemp caught fire, plus that A-Ram signing wasn't bad. With less hype and expectations the Pads might have a decent year… only problem is the NL West is tough as hell right now.
