After having the concussion issues last season, Backstrom suffered an injury in the KHL from getting run into the boards. Apparently it's led to a lot of neck pain and Ovi was quoted saying something about dizziness. Now...no one neck/head injury is the same, but let me tell ya, this sounds similar. Not saying he'll be out as long as Sid, but I hope by skipping steps and going to the specialist he'll be back quicker. Still needs to take his time though. Nothing worse for this than coming back too early.

Linkage: Nicklas Backstrom visits specialist; Uh-oh, Capitals - NHL - Sporting News

Shitty deal, I like Backstrom a lot too. You could clearly see a difference when he was out there for the Capitals, he adds a whole new element to their game. How far into the shortened season before head trauma becomes a major talking point again? I'm setting the over/under at 3.5 weeks.

you guys are over reacting. the NHL and NHLPA addressed all the safety issues with the CBA. This CBA wasn't just about the money :rolleyes2::dizzy::rolleyes:

found the hit. Really does look like just the neck

Unfortunately they're attached. There's a lot of research going into C1-C2 issues and those leading to concussion like symptoms. I wish I could find the Ovi comment again. Obviously Nick can't talk to team doctors until the CBA is ratified, but seeing the specialist now is a good idea. I do wonder if he was playing after that injury quite a lot...issues with playing in the KHL. Completely different ideas of sports medicine.

Seriously though it's too bad to see Backstrom out. One of my favourite players to watch.

For some reason Backstrom wasn't allowed to talk about it because he hadn't seen team docs, something along those lines. So, reporters asked Ovi how Nick was doing, and his response was something like "You know sometimes you get hit and feel dizzy still, etc."

I really need to find that quote...

Hope Backstrom is okay. Everything I've heard is that it's a neck injury, and even a minor neck injury can mess you up for weeks. Hopefully it's just that.

Strasburg held out due to Tommy John recovery, RG3 has ligament surgery, and John Wall out all year so far. Washington DC - Where the stars come out to (watch their teammates) play.

Get better soon, #19.

Nickie skated for the first time since he got injured today. Also spoke to the media and he said that he didn't suffer a concussion and feels 100% healthy..
