Haven't heard anything from the league regarding this incident - Goc is out between 2-4 weeks as a result. He hit him in a vulnerable area (about 4-5 feet away from the boards). Of course, you never know with the Colin Campbell 'Wheel of Justice'.

Video of the hit is provided in the link below:

tough call. a dangerous area o the ice for sure.
it didn't seem like a nasty hit per se - not sure backstrom could have expected Goc to lose his footing on something like that.

/ps. No Pronger on the wheel of justice?

Damn it, I keep landing on Bertuzzi!

It wouldn't shock me to see Campbell hand out a 1 gamer here, but then again Backstrom is a star so it also wouldn't shock me to see this one swept under the rug.

I personally don't think we'll see a suspension from this one.

in all honesty.... i really don't think this was that bad.

if this happens another 10 feet back. you are looking at saying 'he bumped him. so what'
and i understand they are looking to eliminate that in the vulnerable areas but this was so innocent with just a poor result...

the league has to walk a fine line and they shouldn't go suspending people just because a guy was hurt on a routine play. this is still hockey.

It looks like kind of a fly-by with no intention, and that is most likely what it is, but it's still a hit from behind in a vulnerable spot and the type of thing that the league is trying to eliminate. One game is appropriate, I think. No more than that.

Kinda like going from a couple of headbutts, to it just bein an attempted headbutt. :D

actually no an attempt to headbutt is beyond question an intent to injure whether one succeeds or not the malicious intent was there,

unlike that of a hockey play as seen here :D

Wouldn't be surprised either way, but the one thing I think is that suspentions shouldn't be result oriented.

I don't think results should be the only factor, but I think it should definitely be a consideration for the length of the suspension.

The way I see it, they should be evaluated in multiple parts:
1 - Is this a suspendable hit?
2 - What is the appropriate length for the suspension based on the hit?
3 - Are there additional factors (prior offender, injury) that should extend the length of the suspension?

In this case though, I don't see any suspension coming.
