Heat are 4th from the bottom in average attendance in the AHL ... not much higher in attendance than what they had in Omaha

it was a mistake ... and unlike what we see in Phoenix I think the Flames know they need to fix it

I feel bad for the Bruins fans. They have the same idiot owner who tried to move Tri-City a few years back. "Hockey can't survive in Kennewick." And look at the Americans now. What a crock of shit. Daryl Porter can rot.

Having said that, Victoria is a market worthy of a WHL franchise. I just wish they'd move the Cougars there instead of the Bruins.

No I didn't, what happened?

some would say old time hockey some would say ugliness

video on hockeyfights.com

The Vancouver Giants and Chilliwack Bruins might be bitter WHL rivals but what occurred Wednesday at the Pacific Coliseum in the Bruins' 2-0 victory was beyond good old-boy, hardhitting hockey.

Giants right winger Michael Burns left the ice on a stretcher at the 2: 52 mark of the second period after being crushed into the boards by Bruins defenceman Tyler Stahl, the play unpenalized as it was a shoulder-to-shoulder hit. In a scary scene, Burns was convulsing on the ice before he was taken to Vancouver General Hospital.

"He's definitely got concussionlike symptoms and he might have a little bit of a back injury," said Giants head coach Don Hay. "The doctors feel he's going to be okay but they just wanted to get him checked out to be sure. It was very scary, very scary. You don't want to see that happen to anybody."

Less than four minutes later, Giants defenceman Wes Vannieuwenhuizen was left dazed and wobbled off the ice with medical help after a hit-frombehind by Bruin Curt Gogol. This one resulted in a major penalty and game misconduct. Vannieuwenhuizen did, however, return in the third period after being cleared by doctors.

"After the hit, I just felt a little bit dizzy there," explained Vannieuwenhuizen. "I did the concussion test and they said I was fine, just wait out the second period. I felt good to go and I felt pretty good out there in the third."

In between the two incidents, there was a partial brawl with three simultaneous fights. Four players - the Giants' Neil Manning and Greg Lamoureux, the Bruins' Jamie Crooks and Stahl - were ejected for being involved in secondary altercations as Giants captain James Henry and Bruins counterpart Brandon Manning were already throwing punches.

I'll have to check out the video when I get a chance. I'd say ugliness and old style hockey both fit to a degree based on what I read. Hope everyone ends up ok, sound like Burns took quite a hit though. The Giants are getting extremely beat up heading into the playoffs, which is too bad. You never want to see that.

kind of expected ... i think he knows what the market would mean in terms of revenue for the Canucks ... probably trying to squeeze some sort of penalty/payment from the city of Abby if they want the Flames to mutually agree to void the contract

taxpayers of Abby will love this

Dominoes man, dominoes...I hope it's true, Victoria should be back in the WHL.

doh!

Reaction within Chilliwack is expected to be highly negative.

The entire minor hockey association recently outfitted themselves in Junior Bruins jerseys, and the team was linked financially to the new pediatric centre at the Chilliwack General Hospital.

The rumors I've heard during the Chiefs series with Chilliwack is that the move is in place and it just needs an announcement. The vote will just be a formality, the league and it's owners are ready to move back into Victoria. They're just waiting for the Chiefs to eliminate the Bruins.

I wouldn't mind seeing Prince George move to Chilliwack within the next season or two. I haven't heard anything specific about the issue, but I did hear a rumor that the owner of the Cougars has inquired in the past about moving the franchise back to Victoria and the league said no because the relationship between PG's owner (who is still the same guy who owned them when they moved from Victoria in the early 90s) and Victoria is still sour. So with Chilliwack moving to Victoria, if the Cougars do indeed move to Chilliwack, I think the league overall would be much better off. Takes out a poor market and gets rid of one of the worst travel burdens in the league.

PG to Chilliwack is a trade up and yah the travel is just atrocious ... this area is just so saturated with minor pro and junior hockey you wonder if franchises continue to be this transient whether the markets will continue to support them

one more step out of the way:

WHL makes official announcement today that they've granted conditional approval for Chilliwack Bruins to be sold.
