This was released a few days ago, and I have referenced it, but I think it deserves it's own thread.

1. Gary Brown, OF
2. Tommy Joseph, C
3. Heath Hembree, RHP
4. Joe Panik, SS
5. Francisco Peguero, OF
6. Andrew Susac, C
7. Eric Surkamp, LHP
8. Kyle Crick, RHP
9. Ehire Adrianza, SS
10. Hector Sanchez, C

Some quick notes...

I expected ToJo to be high, but I was more expecting #4, not #2. I an excited to see what he can do in Richmond this year.

Panik below Hembree is a bit of a surprise. I wonder if that is praise for Hembree or a knock on Panik?

Three guys from the recent draft, and all three are legit. Nice to see.

Three undrafted players. This is a HUGE deal and can not be over-stated. If we can treat the Latin market as a second draft each year, we will have a consistently strong farm and will always contend.

No AnVil?

Probably too early to tell.

AnVil is a total wild card. He could be top 5, or he could be out of the top 50 entirely. Give him 1/2 a season and we will know where he is at.

IMO, I would've flipped ToJo and Panik, but that may be a testament onto how ToJo has improved his defense so much and Panik's deficiencies there.

Overall, our system is STUFFED with hitters right now. Hopefully we can lockup the rotation because reinforcements are on the way.

Susac at #6!?!?

Travesty.

Kaiser Soze will hear about this.

Sincerely,

Fenster (tzill)

The way I hear it, Soze is some kind of butcher. A peerless, psycho, fucked-up butcher.

I'm telling you this guy is protected from up on high by the Prince of Darkness.*

*According to everyone outside of the greater SF Bay Area, the Prince of Darkness is Barry Bonds.

He became a myth, a spook, a story criminals tell their kids at night. "Don't rat on your Pop, Keyser Soze'll get ya".

Also, nerdy correction: 'peerless'? or 'fearless'?

...and no-one ever really believes.

I am pretty sure that it is 'peerless'.

How do you see the progression to the big club for the catchers? I realize that there is a lot of uncertainty (injuries, trades, etc) but is having 3 in the top 10 and Posey already here a concern that 2 of the 3 might have their path blocked (the flip side is that it is a luxury to have talented options)?

And before I forget, happy holidays to all.

Chez3 will get a lot of play in SF this year. With 2 other highly touted catching prospects in the system, there is no reason to handle him with kid gloves. If he is a back-up, so be it. Kinda sucks for him.

Not too concerned with the other two.

ToJo projected more as a 1B when he was drafted, so the fact that he is actually sticking at C is gravy. He would be a pretty serious trade chip, and I think that is his destiny anyway.

Susac has yet to play a pro game, but he comes with pedigree. I expect him to be the one that forces a decision on Posey. No reason to rush him. Late 2014/mid 2015 maybe?

Panik is rated lower because scouts still aren't sold on him.

Before the draft his ceiling was supposed to be a Carrol esq super utility guy. Now, it looks like he may be a legitimate 2B prospect in the mold of Franchez. Give him a full year to see what he is actually made of. Brown got hate too, and now he's one of the best prospects in the game.

Also, ToJo had a monster year in A-ball. If he has similar numbers in Richmond, expect him to fly up the top prospect rankings.

Yes, ToJo hit a ton of homers in A ball last year, but I think it was something like 7 of his 22 homers were against either High Desert or Lancaster.

I try not to put too much stock in A-ball numbers.

Too many times does it seem that we've had a prospect kill it and get tons of hype, only to come back to earth in Richmond and Fresno.

Of the last 4 players to CRUSH San Jose (ToJo is not one of them, IMHO), two have progressed to become legit MLB stars (Posey, Panda), one stumbled out of the gate, but looked good doing it (Belt), and one was specifically held back, and will be in Richmond this year (Brown).

I get that there was a line of busts pre-Panda, but that was an org with a COMPLETELY different outlook at the minor league system.

ToJo was drafted as a super raw, super high potential kid out of HS. He has been brought up through the system at a snails pace. He is not ready yet, but he has continued to impress all scouts along the way. He will be fun to watch the next couple years.

I look at good SJ hitting numbers as encouraging but the real test for hitters comes in Richmond. Similarly, I look at good Richmond pitching stats as encouraging but wait for a better test at Fresno.

Was his mother Dottie Hinson?
