I have watched a handful of Auburn games this season and the more I watch their offense the more I feel that their head coach is running a modernized option type of offense. I am seeing a lot of old option blocking principles with a modernized down field and zone read principles.

Pretty impressive when your opponents don't know how to stop it yet. Next year the teams will be more use to it.

Smart offensive mind Auburn has as their head coach.

You do remember he was the OC before he went to Arkansas St. gone for one year and now Auburns HC he already had the players to run that offense there.

It's a lot of option and wingT principles they run it well and Auburn is physical football team.

Ok. He's put the pieces together twice then.

Two SEC titles, one NC, and on the verge of playing for another.

Okay so if your going to count his NC as an OC then you need to count NC by Bo as a DC at LSU and Big12 championship with OU as secondary coach and hell lets count Bo's Superbowl win with the 49ers! GM still came into a perfect storm with Auburn.

They know how to coach down there at Auburn. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat FSU.

Gus didn't fall off the turnip truck on his way back to Auburn. They ran the best power run spread game in the country with Cameron.

It's the same damn offense Cam ran guys.

“Now, he had Cam Newton [in 2010], and that was a problem in itself. But even the next year when the talent dropped off some and they couldn’t run the quarterback, you started to figure out what he is. He’s a hard-nosed, physical running-game guy and then throws play-action.

“He’s not what most people look at and say, ‘Spread.’”

When Malzahn had Newton in 2010, the Tigers averaged 284.8 rushing yards per game to lead the SEC. Newton and running back Michael Dyer both rushed for 1,000 yards that season, and running back Onterio McCalebb had 810 yards.

In 2011, Malzahn’s final season as Auburn’s offensive coordinator, the Tigers still finished fourth in the SEC in rushing with an average of 182.3 yards per game.

“There are so many different spreads, and [Malzahn] is not a horizontal throwing game, zone-read guy,” Johnson said. “He runs the power and the counter power. Seventy-five percent of his running game is a two-back running game, and then he throws the ball vertically off play-action.

“You’ve got the option, the element of power, and then you’ve got the pace and the tempo. That’s what I think really makes it hard to get ready for in college football today.”

-Ellis Johnson on Gus

When you hear Johnson talk about it... It's like what I dream of for our offense, but beck wants to incorporate swing passes and 2nd down drag/timing routes.

Knock off the fluff and our offense looks a lot like what Ellis described.

And knowing Auburns track record with head coaches Malzan (sp?) would be wise to seriously look at the Texas job if it opens up.

I don't know anyone who would be shocked at Auburn beating FSU.

The talent FSU has right now is on par with Bama's.
