and from my experience, id say people who ive come across involved in hfh are hardworking people

The way that I'm reading this is that it isn't specifically against HFH. It's a statement about lower class people. That's a reason why I disagree with how he's presenting this.

I wanna live in this neighbourhood lol

(from this newspapers letter to the editor section)

We don’t want a police presence at family outings. We don’t want to worry about drugs at elementary schools or gang fights at the high schools. We don’t want to worry about people speeding, possibly hitting our kids, or having to increase our police force. What we want is for St. Albert to remain as it is with very few low-income households, a place for families that work hard to live here. You can say we will screen to make sure those families won’t make the cut, but there is no level of pre-screening that will prevent some form of crime from infiltrating the proposed development. It will happen, guaranteed.

I can understand the emotions behind this paragraph, but seriously, FUCK the people who wrote it. You cannot possibly justify discriminating against a group of people you haven't even met, and as far as I'm concerned, innocent until proven guilty is in full effect here.

Salient points countering their arguments:

1. HFH homes have been shown to INCREASE the property value of surrounding neighborhoods, which implies that they do not cause an increase in gangs or drugs or CRAZY RUNAWAY CARS HITTING YOUR CHILDREN, since those are all things which would, I imagine, decrease property values.

2. There is no evidence that HFH increases crime rates. You know who qualifies for HFH? People with no sex crimes ever nor drug crimes in the last five years. People who generally make less than 50% of the local median income, which, if the neighborhood is as affluent as the letter claims, means that policemen, firemen, teachers, librarians, and nurses are just a few of the jobs which qualify for selection. And we sure wouldn't want any of THOSE PEOPLE corrupting your children, would we? They might impart some type of morality to the youth, and that's something we must prevent!
