PORTLAND, Ore. -12/10/14 - (KOIN/CNN) An Oregon brewery is going rogue by going hot and cold on its latest beer.
They produced what they call a Sriracha Hot Stout Beer that contains hot chili sauce.

The creator, Rogue Ales, admits the concept might sound weird, but the company tested the new brew in pubs this past summer and says it was a hit. However, "hot sauce beer" presents a challenge:

"Everybody has their own preference. You really got to find that sweet medium where you get good spice and you deliver on the promise of Sriracha, but you don't burn,” Michael Higgins, the Director of Liquid Development at Rogue Ales.

Bottles of the Sriracha hot stout beer went on sale Monday.
Right now, it's only available in Portland-area pubs and online.

I won't order it online but I'll definitely give it a try when it works it's way down here to the bay area.

I tried the Stone Chipotle Smoked Porter, and it was okay but not great. I prefer the normal variety. I have not yet seen this Sriracha stuff, but Rogue is typically a really solid brewery. I'd give it a try if I saw it. Actually, I'll be in Portland soon. . .

I have to admit I'd like to try it.

I guess I'll keep my opinions on the whole hipster Sriracha fad to myself. :rolleyes2:

:agree:

Isn't the reason to have a beer to chill and relax??? How can you call it a cold refreshing beer if you break a sweat drinking it???

I did make it to Portland, but never ran across any Sriracha porter. Such is life.

It isn't uncommon for Hot Peppers winding up in Beer here in Asheville, NC. Several brewers here have tried this trick, Wicked Weed, French Broad and Hi-Wire off the top of my head. And I'm not so sure that Asheville Brewing had something like this as well.

Ballast Point makes a Habanero Sculpin, but the heat is overpowering. I'm definitely not in love with the fad to put Sriracha in everything these days.

It's almost as cool as flannel, isn't it?

Pepper beers have to walk an extremely fine line. Not enough pepper and it's just a lousy beer. Too much, and it's pretty much a fancy drain cleaner in my book.

Rogue's a bit overpriced. And treat their employees/customers like shit.
