Just curious.

43-45 entering the break and may be 5.5 out of 1st if the Brews hold on to defeat the Yankees. Their only route to the playoffs seems to be through the Central.

Cardinals likely have the same record if they hold off the Mets so I figure I can comment:

If the Brewers keep playing like they've been playing lately then the Cards and Cubs have a better shot at the Wildcard because the Brewers are going to pass up the 2nd wild card team quite easily. (read: Cubs/Cards are done if the Brewers keep playing like they are)

Brewers are super hot right now but I also think they fit the profile of a team that could collapse late in the season if they stop hitting home runs. I'm just not sure the Cubs or Cardinals are really good enough to matter this year just as a whole.

I have no idea how the Brewers are in 1st after watching them this weekend. Their defense is incredibly bad.

Home Runs and a solid ERA.

But yeah, their defense is awful but the Cardinals defense has literally given away games, too, so the Brewers had just been the best bad team until this recent stretch where they are playing great baseball.

The cubs are sleepwalking daily. Shitty pitching and untimely hitting is no way to go through life.

You would hope entering the break 4.5 or 5.5 back (Tying run on for Judge right now for the Yanks) would wake them up.

Cardinals are entering the toughest stretch of the schedule coming up. If the Cubs don't 'wake up' then the Brewers will run away with it here in a couple of weeks as far as I can tell.

Imo, the Cardinals woke up about 2 weeks ago. I just dont know how good they are.

I think he's striking out something like 15 per 9 innings.

Yeah after walking Gardy to start off the 9th, he then struck out Judge, Didi, and Sanchez to end the game.

I'd be shocked if the Cubs offense doesn't turn it around, but the rotation is looking pretty blah. Brewers do have a pretty decent team. I know I predicted the Cubs to win the Central a few days ago, but I'm not so sure right now. Losing Anderson hurts though, he was one of the better pitchers in the league.

As a Chicagoan, who follows the Cubs simply because I've always been around their fans. I pretty much blew off their bad April and May, and figured it was only a matter of time before they got going. Now? Their struggles are very real, and I can no longer say with confidence that they'll get it going.

The rotation is legitimately sub-par, and I don't see that changing. Everything falling perfectly for them last season, has kind of evened itself out in the terms of regression. I still believe the lineup will get going, but if Milwaukee can just manage 87 wins or so. I don't believe the Cubs are going to be able to do enough to beat that.

If pressed, I still have to say that they'll go on some kind of a streak here and make things interesting. Although, I am now hesitant to say they'll figure it out.

We'll also have to see what they do at the deadline. If they don't improve the rotation, they're toast.

Pirates, Mets, Cubs, Rockies after the break......

Dejong and Voit seems to have pumped a little life into the Cardinals who were following the personality of Matheny. Matheny seems to show no enthusiam at all. I still would like to see Oquendo come back and help with fielding and base running.

Their defense is adequate but their hitting is exceptional.

Specifically I was talking about 10 straight road games and then the Rockies and Diamondbacks at home. To a great team, thats not a terrible stretch but to a sub .500 team thats a nightmare.

The young players have added some pop into the lineup for sure but that just means that Matheny will have tough decisions to make about the infield and outfield here shortly and lord knows Matheny and tough decisions are words that give no Cards fan confidence.

Its understandable. These younger kids that are not considered the "core" are being put in the tough hitting situations to keep pressure off a 182 million dollar free agent, the core of Rizzo only uses left field if he bunts. Great hitters spray the ball all over the field. Nobody would shift on great hitters. Thats all we see are shifts and these millionaires not following the little league teaching of hit it where they ain't. Productive outs are grounding out to the opposite side. You gotta wonder what the real message is to these hitters.

It should not matter if the starters ERA is up 2 runs a game with this lineup that should score 5 without breaking a sweat.
