Didn't think this would happen but its right that it did. Drop the contract length and raise the salary a bit for the back end years and you got a deal that most teams won't want to sign Kovy to....crazy stuff.

They wiil rework it to where the cap hit is around $6.7. They just had too many dead years at the end.

the prorated hit was like somewhere around 5.5 mill per season. but he made like 500k the final 5 seasons in order to bring down the average to under 6 mill. it will be interesting to see if the devils copy either the hossa or pronger model and resubmit. pronger only has 2 watered down years at the end of his contract to bring down the average. not sure about hossa. either way, it means the devils will likely be closer to paying kovy 7 mill per season. should be interesting. they will have to cut payroll somewhere. maybe would could take brodeur off their hands....
