So started playing Madden 12 franchise mode, now that the season is over.
I'm playing the 49ers.

I traded away Alex Smith and Bowman and trying to stockpile picks so I can trade Atlanta for Julio Jones (have not been able to trade for him yet). I'm gonna go with Kap as my starting QB.

Then I picked up some waiver wire interior D-lineman and I'm gonna switch to a 4-3, because I traded away Bowman.

And generally improved my depth with waiver wire pickups.

I like the way they put in cuts after every preseason week, you can build up your depth after every week of cuts.

I noticed the trading is alot harder. I used to trade my crappy players for a bunch of 5th rounders and then group the 5th rounders together to trade up to a 3rd or 4th and then build draft picks that way. You cannot do that anymore. I think Altanta is gonna want 3 1st rounders for Julio as well, who's an 86 overall. So the trading is more difficult now IMHO which is good.

I started a week ago and the only thing I did year 1 was pick up T.O. as a free agent. I also used that cap space to re-sign all the major players on one year deals.

Year 2 however I drafted a RB in the 1st round and drafted 3 WR's all 6'3 or taller with speed. I did re-sign Morgan so my starters are Crabtree/Morgan with the rookies taking the 3 and 4 spot as well as punt/kickoff return duty. I also traded Gore, Haralson, and 1st for Jarvis Jones to pair up next to Aldon Smith at OLB.

Aldon, Bowman, Willis, Jones at LB is just sick.

I used free agency mostly to find young talent rated around 70-75 that would not cost a lot to fill in the depth of my roster. I was going to spend big on a WR but the only decent one on the market was Boldin, and I was not going to pay the 7m a year he wanted.

I'm scouting RG, CB, FS, and SS like crazy this year to find good value picks since I no longer have a 1st. I really want to upgrade the CB and SS spot on the team next as well as finding another RG.

I don't see a reason to get rid of Alex. He is like an 87 in the last roster update and has a potential of an A so he can vastly improve. The QB spot in Madden is not that important anyway if you're the one playing it. After year 1 he picked up the role playoff performer. Year 2 it looks like he is the league MVP. I simulated all of year 2 as well except the playoffs.

I always had the ability to play with a horrible QB since I had the likes of Alex, JTO, Hill, Troy, Rattay, and Pickett since I started playing. So I would do the same thing. But I haven't played it in a long time, due to the fact that the game has gotten worse every year since 06. I can honestly say I've played SuperTecmoBowl way more in the past few years with updated rosters.

I just want to go with Kap to go a different route, and because he's got more throwing power/speed than Alex. But his potential is only a 'B' so maybe I can only get him to 80 something.

There was a bunch of 'B' rated talent on the waiver wire, and a few 'A's.

I just got it and havent played a madden game since 2008. Very unimpressed. Its too bad EA doesnt have any competition. Just a lot of errors in the game not all that much has changed in 4 years. Trading is messed up. For certain players its almost too hard to trade for. And trading for next years 1st round picks is way too easy. I had over 10 and barely gave up anything. You would think they could fix these dumb simple mistakes nowadays.

I love the dynamic progression system they added. I love the cuts during pre-season and the year long scouting for the draft. I even like the way free agency works now.

I do not like the gameplay on the field though. NCAA 12 was so much fun and so smooth. Madden feels sluggish and clunky by comparison.

Are you able to import a draft class from NCAA Football 2012? I remember being able to do that with previous versions of NCAA Football and Madden.

Those were the days... Oregon winning National Championships, and the Niners taking Super Bowls and drafting Ducks. It seems like that wouldn't be the case if there is draft scouting throughout the season, but don't listen to me. I haven't played those games since college.

EDIT: I might pick them up if they retain that feature, though. Fun stuff.

How about if you trade Justin Smith and Brooks for draft picks? Just kidding, I know Sickness wasn't talking about 2012.

I remember him saying that all the time. Wasn't he gonna trade Gore as well? :-) All the guys who are "past their prime".

I think they do it in such a way that you import at the start of the season and you can scout them until the draft at the following season.

Also, if you put Aldon Smith at LDE.... he is up near a 99 overall as a rookie. He dominates. He had 17 sacks in my season in his rookie year. I moved him to OLB and so far through like 5 games he has only 1 sack.

He says other's 2012 is better than his, but his 2013, 2014, and 2015 is better than others. Then, he'll say that other's 2013 is better than his, but his 2014, 2015, and 2016 is better than others. It's like when I was in elementary school, the experts said there was going to be a great, great earthquake in the next 50 years. 15+ years later, what do they say? There is going to be a great, great earthquake in the next 50 years.

I'm only joking, as I know that there is an ending point to Sick's spiel, as once we are really good then there'll be no need to trade big pieces. But when the FO doesn't listen to Sickness, we all know his stance will be the same, unless lo and behold we get there by a different route. By that time, of course, Sickness will be retired with his rich pension.
