His parting shot was a shot at the NHL and the thuggery that prevents Sidney Crosby from participating in the playoffs. Don't let the facts get in the way of a rant, eh Wilbon? You'd better start doing some studying, pal, there may not be any NFL or NBA action this fall for you or Kornheiser to wax poetic about on PTI.

I (atleast used to) like PTI, but whenever they start to talk about the NHL, I mute the TV right away. Wilbon has this view on the NHL that everyone is a goon when all he has to do is look over his shoulder at the NBA to see real thuggery...

Obviously John Saunders knew about Wilbon's parting shot and talked about the athleticism of today's NHL goalies in his parting shot (and also referred to the excitement of the NHL playoffs). Probably doesn't hurt that Saunders is a good Canadian boy and former hockey player.

The few times I watch PTI and the even fewer times they talk NHL, Kornheiser is atleast a little knowledgeable about the sport...but he is also based out of DC while Wilbon is Arizona....

I don't waste much time watching ESPN. I wish it was the ESPN that we had 25 years or so ago. It has turned into garbage.

The thing that probably changes his view on Sid's concussion versus those sustained by NFL players is the way they're treated. Sid is getting the appropriate treatment that NFL players don't receive. He sustained a pretty nasty concussion, and needs to take the appropriate amount of time off if he wants to have a long career. NFL players are back within a week from these things...and that's not because it's a less violent sport or league, that's because the NFL doesn't know how to treat them properly. Austin Collie, a WR for the Colts, sustained a concussion in mid-November, was out for 3 games, came back and got another one. And honestly, that was a conservative treatment of a concussion compared to the NFLs usual treatment. Then he was out the rest of the year. So, what's holding Sid out is not goonery, it's called being smart. He's the best player on the Pens team, and the best player in the world before he got hurt...why the heck would you rush him back?

There are also different levels of concussion. Pix maybe you can answer this for me. how are they "graded"? Is it a series of mental testing or CT scans, MRI's or what? Just curious.

He never has anything positive to say about the NHL except when it involves the Blackhawks. And when I say "say", I of course mean "scream at the guy sitting right across from him."

Now, this opinion is probably more because it is the opinion of my professors, but to me, it's a concussion no matter what. The only thing that could make it "worse" would be to have cranial bleeding occur as a result. My opinion is that it varies SO greatly from person to person, how could you ever give a blanket grading system to something that varies so greatly? Now, my book has levels based on whether you lost consciousness or what not...but because of the variance you just have to look at the effects of each person. I've seen a guy hit heads with another guy in soccer and be out for 4 weeks, and I've seen a guy take the same hit and be perfectly fine.

Concussions are very difficult to grade as you said. I was a supervisor and a few years ago involved in a car accident and smacked my head pretty good. I went back to work after a few days and felt fine but my right hand man asked if we could speak in my office.

He said are you sure you're feeling OK"? I looked at him and said yes why do you ask"? He said "No offense but you do not seem as sharp as usual and some of the decisions you're making are not very "Steve like". So even tho I felt fine apparently I was not functioning at my normal level. I guess the worse person to ask if they are ready to play is the player himself if this is the norm.

wilbon doesn't know shit about hockey. he used to be good but i think all the tv time is turning him into a darker and just as loudmouth version of skip baylss/colin cowherd. nothing that he says is worth anything anymore, in any sport.

That's for sure but not too many people at ESPN do either.

everything Johnny said is pretty much true at this point about Wilbon. If its not about Lebron and Barkley, he has nothing good to say

Wilbon once said "people think I don't know anything about hockey because I'm black" out of nowhere.

That's just plain stupid. John Saunders knows hockey very well and last time I looked he is black. WTF does race have to do with it? Note to Wilbon, You don't know anything about hockey because you don't know anything about hockey. I don't give a damn what color you are.
