Oddly enough our hands and our feet are pretty useless without a thumb or big toe. Somehow in my older years I got a form of turf toe. I have altered how I walk to reduce the effects .... sprinting is not in my game plan anymore but then too at age 64 years there is little that would get me to sprint .... LMAO .... okay, I don't have anything you could consider a sprint anymore. Turtles taunt me. :L :pound:

My money is still on you against the turtle in a sprint, but against Darryl Green in his day I might have to reconsider.

I was pretty fast .... a lonnnggggg time ago but Darrell would have caught before I got to the 50 yard line instead of the 10 like he caught Dorsett.

Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green turned 50 on Tuesday. He turned more than a few heads when he tweeted that he celebrated his birthday by running the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds.

I do not thing there was ever a faster player in the NFL.

A long time ago, I spent a summer playing basketball at lunch almost every day with Darrell. Because we were close to the same size, we almost always guarded each other. I have never seen someone with the explosiveness as he had, especially on a fast break. What an incredible athlete he was (my guess still is). Oh, also, a really great guy.

Darrell Green was and still is my favorite Redskin. Not many players agree to stay with 1 org for 20 years and play at a level that he did for every year of those 20. His rookie season he replaced Jerris White at CB and for 20 years we never had to worry about Darrell's side of the field, just amazing and what an incredible career he had.

What I really want to know JY, is did Darrell store a large size tootsie roll in his sock for after each game at lunch you guys ran?

Bleacher Report has the top 10 fastest NFL players in history listed in this order:

1/ Bob Hayes
2/ Bo Jackson
3/ Darrell Green
4/ Deion Sanders
5/ Ike Taylor
6/ Renaldo Nehemiah
7/ Willie Gault
8/ Cliff Branch
9/ Trindon Holliday
10/Chris Johnson

You make a great point about a player having loyalty to a team back then which was pretty normal. Today sports has become big business and it's pretty normal to see players going from team to team because the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. The end results for these players works out both ways for better or worse since loyalty seems to be a thing of the past.

For those of us who were around for the Gibbs era I think we miss players like Monte Coleman, Don Warren and others who stayed in Washington forever. Many of the FAs that were signed this year were like those guys. Not great but adequate football players. These days you pay (in some cases) your best players for a few years then you have to cut them or trade them. Monte Coleman would be replaced by someone younger and cheaper instead of having such a long career with one team.

Even in the 60s, how would the Redskins been able to keep Sonny, Charley, Bobby Mitchell, Len Hauss, Jerry Smith, Chris Hanburger.

Fandom these days is more about the logo than the player because the player isn't likely to be there long. I miss the old days when I rooted for the the team and wished we could keep those players year after year.
