Back on a one year deal.

Any details on money?

Not sure how I feel about this. Microfracture is a tough one to come back from. And Spencer is not young in this league anymore.

This is great news IMO. Spencer, Melton and Crawford along with the recent additions could be much improved. I expect another couple of players for the rotation from the draft as well

Spencer, Melton, and Crawford are all coming off major Injuries. I would like to see the team start to move away from relying on players with injury histories. Jerry seems to believe he can get value for these type of guys, but it never seems to work out.

you have to gamble sometimes or you limit your team on available players. both Spencer and Melton are basically 1 year deals so i don't see them being a major issue. now if he had done his usual and sign them to ridiculous long contracts i would agree with you

Odds are its a very cheap contract. I like the idea of Spencer for the vet minimum. I hope he plays himself into a multi year deal.

My thoughts exactly .... Vet Minimum ....... Can't be more than that ... He wont even be ready to start the season

For 1 year, I think this is fine. Hopefully they still land a quality D-lineman or two in the draft.

1 year deal could be worth up to 3.5 million if all the incentives are hit

I heard on NFL radio max of $3.5M. I am very happy with this deal personally. Guessing there is a guaranteed amount and some kind of incentive structure also.

This is all they have on Spotrac

Anthony Spencer signed a 1 year / $3.50 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including $0 guaranteed

Looks to me like nothing but game checks. More games he misses the cheaper he is

It usually takes a while to get the accurate contract info. I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least $1M guaranteed.

I'm very happy with what we have done with the DL since Ware and Hatcher left. We brought in two Pro Bowl players on "prove it" contracts. Melton gets a big pay day if we like him or is let go after 1 cheap season if we don't like him. Spencer we can do the same with. We also brought in two rotation type vets. We get Crawford and Bass back from injury and we get our two guys (Selvie and Hayden) that we found last year to play in a rotation as well. We certainly will go DL at least once in the first 3 rounds for a starter or heavy rotation type and we can go any position on the DL with that pick(s). Looks like Crawford and maybe even Bass won't know what position they are playing for another month.

None of this means we will have a great DL in 2014, but I think it is a great start to setting us up going forward. After this season we'll have a better idea of where we hit and where we need to keep strengthening the spots. If Melton and Spencer both revert to their Pro Bowl past we will have to pay them, but combined with a likely early draft pick and the rest of the guys now on board we could be OK.

To clarify my thoughts on Spencer, while I think this was a very good move by us (depending on the actual contract of course) I don't think there is any guarantee he is ready for the start of the year or even more so that he will come back as the same player he was before the injuries. So I do think it COULD help our DL in 2014 and I think there is the possibility of a washout again too. The good news is we could bring another DE in via the draft, we could get Spencer back to near 100% or we could play Crawford at DE or more than one of the aforementioned. So I still think the moves have us heading in the right direction with or without Spencer ready for the season. Side note: The more I think about it, the more I'd love to get Barr in this draft. I think he would be a dynamic pass rusher and would make the whole defense better.

Well the move by Herr Goodell to May with the draft is a disaster IMHO. The show that was supposed to be playing at Radio City Music hall was canceled.

If that was the reason for the Moving of the draft why was the venue not booked earlier by the NFL ?? And just why does it always have to be in New York ? lots of other cities could host the Draft
