Haven't seen any info about this but all is good. If a player feels he can't do his job for a team it is best to walk away. Good that he did this now when the 9ers can find or fill a starter spot.

yeah but this team is in big trouble. I have us at 6-10. Too many players left and retired. I see a down year. I guess Thomas goes to RT and Martin is the Guard.

I think it is intersting that he said he wants to take a year or two off. So that means he plans on returning?

I don't know. I did some checking and someone posted that he had two concussions last year among his other injuries and had experienced some scary side effects from the concussions. He must have had his reasons for leaving all that money on the table. Going to be a tough year.

yeah, agree with the bolden because this is similar to Willis' case. Davis can't perform at his high level, and if so, better for him and the team.

didn't bolden "it is best to walk away" cause not sure what other options there are? or ramifications of team rights to Davis?

"Davis signed a five-year, $33 million extension in 2013 and had five years remaining on his deal.
He was scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.85 million next season, according to Spotrac. His deal included a $7.5 million signing bonus, some of which he might be required to return to the team"

Only making 1.85 next season? ...might of factored into his decision.

Nope because he got 7.5 million in signing bonus. Its a give and take with yearly salary. he got money up front. U can't for get about that. Still comes to about 6 mill a year.

Better now than later.
better would of been before the draft or FA. Now we have no Depth at the Oline and who replaces him. Only thing I can think of is Thomas(1st year playing) in his spot and martin starts at guard now. Long shot is that FSU player that we drafted in the 6th or 7th rd who is having a good OTA's but again he is a rookie. Lets hope 49ers can pick someone up to compete for the spot or at least give us depth.

What we have is a bunch of highly touted young players who have not yet been given an opportunity to prove their worth. You can't say depth because there is no way of knowing which, if any, of the young players proves their worth to the team with solid production. Fuck, its got probability that it could be a better line then last season's line. Iupati was downright terrible in pass protection and was above average in run blocking, but he whiffed on blocks ALOT. Jonathan Martin started at RT more then AD did last season. Kilgore was showing some signs of dominance before he got injured. Marcus Martin was injured twice last season, and was inconsistent in his small sample size.

If Thomas, Boone, or Brown can play a solid RT, then we would look to any of the 3 remaining plus Martin, Kilgore, Looney, and others to solidify our interior. The talent level is there. It's about adaptation and execution.

I do not want to see Peers, Looney or J Martin starting for us. We will be in Big trouble. J. Martin was flat out bad last year.
