I wanted Mettenberger...But the tainted urine scares me....we dont need another Odell Thurman especially at QB. McCarron is the future! Andy has to SHOW ME and right now Im preparing for a few 3 pick games in 2014 that is going to turn this fanbase into a mean monster on his ass..... AJ to AJ in 2015!

Andy has a huge contract coming, which would cause Mike Brown to have to cut 3 or 4 decent players to stay at his 89% of the cap player budget.
unless we win the superbowl or AFC, I don't think he's staying.

McCarron is the future, indeed.

I think if Dalton flops in the playoffs this year again, AND McCarron wow's the hell out of the coaches in the film room and on the practice field, it is possible we let Dalton go. We might even use a transition tag on Dalton to net a 1st and 3rd round pick if someone signs him away from us. If no one wants to pay that price, then we sign him at an average of the top 10 at his position, for one season, not the top 5. Saves us money, gives us another year to groom McCarron.

If he does get signed away from us, we get both great picks and start Campbell for a season if necessary.

We're really in a no lose situation at quarterback. We can lowball Andy, and make him sign somewhere else unless he makes a deep playoff run. Either we win big and we're happy to extend Andy, or we suck and let him go. Either way it's a win/win.

I think Sam Bradford is horrible and I am not a believer in Andy Dalton. I think the Bengals have a very solid team and Dalton is one of their main issues. It's too bad your nosetackle got hurt because he really dominated. Any word on his recovery?

I don't mean any disrespect about Dalton but it just seems like he has a lot of pieces in place and simply hasn't done it. Who knows maybe he turns the corner but I think odds are against him. Either way you have a good enough team to be in the mix.

you're talking too much logic.

Transition tag only means the team gets the right to match. There' no compensation involved

You won't find much disagreement on this board. We pretty much all believe Dalton is the main issue. We're pretty much happy to have another option, though we're not too sure McCarron is really alot better. As for Atkins, he was supposed to be ready to go for this coming season, but I really haven't heard anything about his progress.

Okay, what was the tag that would give the tagging team compensation of a 1st and 3rd, where as the franchise tag would warrant giving them 2 - 1sts? I thought it was transition tag, but if not, which one is it?

I think its the restricted free agent high tender, which i don't think he'll qualify for.

He's had 3 straight years in the playoffs and his worst performance was his last. I don't know that you'll make the post season this year as you lost your OC, DC and great DE, so Andy may have had his last chance to prove himself in the post season already. I don't know if a great regular season will be enough to save him at this point.

You have to admit...he was pretty horrible vs. the Chargers.

And that was a home game.

I've seen a lot of both players...Dalton as a pro mostly...Andy might be the more talented guy in terms of arm strength, etc. whereas McCarron is a steady player that can manage a game plan...don't ask him to win it.

As development QBs go...admittedly I was high (pardon the pun) on Mettenberger, but HOU stole the draft imo with Tom Savage.

Dalton goes nowhere.

Doesn't anyone realize: If he breaks it out this year, Management is forced to pay him, and they will. Brown loves QB's and if Dalton proves his worth, Brown will have no problem paying him.

If Dalton sucks, his price plummets. Brown can get a proven regular season winner, rake in money, and pay Dalton much less because of him sucking on a contract year.

I'm telling you. Purchase that jersey. He's going nowhere. No matter what any of us want to beleive, or hope for, he's staying.

Dalton wouldn't be worth a 3rd rounder right now.... What makes anyone think someone would give up a 1st?

I think we're in a good situation..... Make Andy play this season on his rookie deal. If he can't step up and handle the pressure, he's not the guy we need back there anyway. If he has a break-out year, he's worth a big money deal.

Exactly, which is why the tag would be necessary to keep anyone else from signing him if he did well this year. We then would have lower tagged him, so we didn't have to franchise tag him, get him for one more year while McCarron is groomed, and pay average of top 10 instead of top 5.

Plus, I thought they kept saying on NFL Network during draft, after we picked McCarron, that he had a bigger arms than Dalton? Was I mistaken there? I sware I had heard that.

I saw McCarron play a lot down here and I think he throws a better deep ball than Dalton. But hell, I think I could... so is that bar very high?

We are going to be a run first team and I hope Hue doesn't throw those stupid out passes that Gruden did all the time -- unless you have a gun, you are getting picked off in press coverage. Andy folds under pressure so if they legitimately give McCarron a shot, then we could see a change.

But I am concerned McCarron is a diva or too reactionary to criticism. Get the hell off of twitter and stop talking. Show up and work hard and things will fall into place.

So maybe we can use Dalton all during the season, and bring McCarron in for the playoffs. LOL
