It is difficult for me to have a completely objective opinion on this because I fucking hate Tony Stewart, but I have watched these sprint cars race for years and he deserves a lot of blame for this. It is very unlikely to happen, but he should be charged and face jail time. He definitely saw the guy and if he doesn't stab the throttle real quick under caution, he would still be alive today.

The bottom line is that Tony knows EXACTLY what the fuck he is doing in these cars. While I don't believe he intentionally tried to kill the guy, I bet he did purposely try to hit him in a fit of rage. That's got to be enough to charge him with something. Yes, the guy wandered down on the track a bit, but that shit happens all of the time. Tony is to blame here as he knows what that car is going to do when he stabs the throttle and he knows just how close he is.

yeah, bottom line, if the kid stood by his car and flipped off tony or confronted him after the race he would still be alive too. There is enough blame on the kids side that tony gets away with this. I am sure the signed waivers include something about walking on the track.

Stewart will make one statement and shut up so he does not let anything slip out that there was any intention on his side.

Someone walks in front of you on a highway it clearly says no pedestrian traffic.

What video did yall watch? The kid blindly ran into traffic. Almost got hit by the car in front of Tony.

Tony feels terrible I'm sure. He's sitting out of today's race. But anyone who thinks criminal charges should be brought against Tony clearly hasn't watched much racing.

His career might be over, but it will be on his own terms.

This is not a highway, it's a dirt track. Guys hop out of their cars and confront other drivers all of the time on the track. It's commonplace. Tony saw the guy and not only did he make zero attempt to avoid him, he stabbed the throttle at the exact moment he needed to to hit him. That's no coincidence. This is fucking terrible.

Yeah, it's terrible that a kid lost his life. But had the car that damn near hit the kid in front of Tony hit him, would we have even heard about it.

The kid lost his head and ran into traffic and got hit. It's tragic, but the kid has no one to blame but himself.

Here's the difference. The car just ahead of Tony slowed down and swerved to avoid the kid. Tony did just about the opposite.

I would love to hear the honest opinion of the other drivers there that night that witnessed this firsthand.

If there is no criminal investigation, the Ward family will launch a civil lawsuit and when that is completed, Tony will face the court of public opinion which may force him out of racing.

There's an article and one of the local racers basically said that the kid blew it by confronting Stewart but that Stewart was basically trying to buzz him. Makes sense that his aim would be off in the wider car. He's more accustomed to pulling jackass stunts in his Sunday ride. I don't think he's a murderer but when he's supposed to be the best driver on the track you'd think he'd at least try to swerve. But in his defense it was a night race and the guy who got hit was in black. Were there spotters at this race?

I'm sorry, but that is bullshit. Tony has very likely raced more often in a sprint car than he has a sprint cup car. He knows what he is doing as much as any of the other drivers do.

Tony deserves no blame in this and it appears you're opinion is very biased due to your admitted hate for Stewart. He will not be charged nor face jail time.

BTW, the kid would still be alive had he not walked onto oncoming traffic. This is 100% on Ward.

Only Tony Knows what happened. But I and my son have driven sprint cars on dirt. Tony was following the car in front of him that swerved to miss Ward at that time yes Tony STABBED the gas because that is the best way to get a sprint for to turn left. Sprint cars have anywhere from 4-8 inches of stager with the right tire being bigger around, so when you STAB the gas it helps turn the car left. Also the wing on the right side of the driver hangs down so far it is really hard to see anything that is on the right front of the car where Ward was. I hate to hear of any driver losing their life and my heart is heavy to day for the Ward family. My son races almost every weekend some where across the USA and I am always on pins and needles until he calls me and then i know he is ok. I will leave the investigation to the police, but with the understanding I have of sprint cars I think Tony did what he could do not to hit him.

RIP Kevin Ward

I have no real dog in this fight as I don't care one way or another about Stewart. No doubt some of this is his fault.

But...um, at the risk of pointing out the obvious, the kid was a total and complete moron for putting himself into that situation. I don't care if that's what you all consider "normal." He belongs in the Darwin awards.

The thing you are forgetting about these cars and turning is that it's only needed to turn like that at speed. They were at pace speed and it doesn't require the gas to be pushed in order to turn.

I actually liked Tony until this incident, so I'm not a hater.

Yeah I have to wonder if the people who think he ran out in the middle of the track "blindly" ever watch racing, or if they understand that the cars weren't racing at the time it happened, it was under caution.

Funny, I was wondering the same thing about you

Plus you cant take Mav's word for anything on here since he is an admitted Stewart-hater.

The kid was struck by the rear tire. There are confrontations on the track quite often, but rarely is the upset driver stupid enough to get close enough to the other car to be struck by it.
