An old school hockey hit

An old clip of Maple Leaf Larry Regan getting lit up by Lou Fontinato, one of the most notorious SOB's in hockey history. Leapin' Lou cross checks Regan's head into the boards at high speed. The amazing thing is that it would take nearly 20 more years before players started saying to each other, "You know what I'm thinking? Helmets."

Love the casualness of the announcer. "Regan was knocked down by Fontinato." Regan had his face rearranged by Fontinato.

Yeah. Fontinato's team mate said that Howe's punches "sounded like an axe splitting wood." A linesman said it was the worst beating he ever saw anybody take. Apparently, Fontinato's nose was pushed so far to the side that where his nose had been there were now two little holes.

Wow. I remember when Colorado drafted him with a pick they got from the Bruins. Boston acquired Landon Wilson and Anders Myrvold in the trade. I remember thinking, "I'm gonna keep my eye on that Regehr guy. Hope we won that trade." Dammit.
