All I hope is no reaching at qb or trade ups
BTW - the two major recent blunders during the recent past IMO were 1. RG3 trade & 2. constant tagging & subsequent trade of Cousins. Both of these were done under Allen's watch. If none of those happened this team likely would be in much better shape talent and cap wise (sure we may have missed an exciting season or two but those were always surrounded by horrendous seasons).
See I dont think the RG3 trade was so bad... I just think Snyder ruined it.
1) SM debacle
2) Cousins debacle
3) Alex Smith debacle
those are the 3 for me. Alex Smith was final nail in coffin
#1 & #2 above all fall under the second item that I mentioned. IMO this all gets back to how they handled this in the early stages. You either sign the guy after the tag or you get rid of him. You never tag a QB the 2nd time unless your plan is to sign him long term within weeks of that tag. If they didn't want Cousins they should have made a Keenum type move in 2018 while they made plans to draft the long term answer at QB.
As for RG3 - IMO this was the single worst long term move for the Skins since Snyder has owned the team (even worse than signing Fat Al). It ruined their draft for 3 years while only producing 1 solid year. Admittedly I was all on board for this move when it occurred but in hindsight it helped ruined the team (& even indirectly helped fuel the whole Cousins debacle).
In any case we can disagree on these pts, but the bottom line is that Allen has been associated with some of the worst moves in Redskins & NFL history & should not have a job at this time.
I think that the RG3 trade was presented a bit differently through the press and I remember it chapping my ass....
Redskins trade 3 1st round picks for RG3..... actually nah they traded 2 1st round picks for him and a 2nd but reporting 3 first round picks sounds like way more and makes skins look dumb which i think was the original intention of the reporting due to their beef with Snyder and team name.
i also think the skins were living in mediocrity and never quite bad enough to get a top 3 pick/qb
the trade for a true franchise qb is worth it. Week 14 of year 1 the skins looked like geniuses. they are snake bitten
Here are the details of that trade:
Redskins Get: No. 2 overall pick (Robert Griffin III)
Rams Get: No. 6 overall pick (traded), No. 36 overall pick (CB Janoris Jenkins), 2013 first round pick (No. 22 overall - traded) and 2014 first round pick (No. 2 overall - OT Greg Robinson, later traded for 2018 6th rounder)
They traded 1st rd picks in 2012, 2013 & 2014. How is that not trading 3 1st rd picks? Now if your claim is that they only traded 2 additional 1st rd picks you could have a pt, but they DID trade 3 1st rd picks for RG3.
I was all for the trade at the time & don't really have that much of an issue with it. My pt. was that this trade truly set this team back for several years, and I don't believe that anyone can deny this. As I always maintain "you can't go back in time & change things". However what you can do is learn from your mistakes.
Given their history in making poor decisions IMO it is in the Redskins best interest to not trade up in the near future for a QB unless you believe that QB might be the next Andrew Luck (ain't happening in this draft) or the amt of picks required for the trade is minimal (rarely happens in today's NFL).
Oh well - I think that Allen/Snyder really don't give a shit about the opinions of experts, fans or anyone else who doesn't kiss their ass. We will see.
yeah I mean swapping 1st round picks to me is a wash... but when you say 3 1st round picks it has more WOW factor.
I was for that trade up.... to get Luck because he was as close to a 100% sure thing there is.
If they traded the same for say Tua or Lawrence in 2020 again I would be okay because they are pretty close to 100% sure things.
now if they traded all that for any QB in this draft thats a different story... really depends on the prospect. RG3 huggge upside that came with a lot of risk.
Well Lawrence - who won't be available for at least a few years - perhaps since he might be the best prospect since Luck. Tua? Pass. That would quite possibly be RG3 all over again. Tua is reckless & tries to extend plays way too often. He is almost an accident waiting to happen & it bit Bama at the end of last season.
Hopefully - for his sake - he matures & stops trying to make plays all the time (not needed on a team like Alabama). Given the Redskins track record - trading the farm for a guy like this would very likely result in disaster long term.
I love Fromm too but Tua has Cousins touch/accuracy with RG3 play making ability. Unlike RG3 Tua can be transformed into a pocket QB... Agree to disagree on Tua. That guy has made my jaw drop a few times.
Lawrence is unbelievable. Skins or any team looking for a qb should be tanking and stockpiling picks for his draft. He is the best prospect of all time.... and hes 19
