...and that means lets talk trades! Who in the Giants org do you think is most likely to be moved? We've had threads discussing our targets, but who could we be losing?

Surkamp, Hembree, Runzler, Neal... in that order.

Peguero? If he shows some control, Michael Main? What about some replaceable guys on the big club? Nate (we're going to have to get Belt into the lineup somehow,) Casilla? Affeldt? What about everybody's favorite guy to speculate about, Dirty Sanchez?:ss:

Have the Giants traded anyone off the 25 man roster under Bochy besides the clearly washed up Molina? Pegeuro would be a nice chip, but Main has no value right now.

As for Sanchez, I could see him being moved if a team gives the Giants third starter value for him. Might be good for him too.

Dirty lost his trade value when he was placed on the DL, even though he is not really hurt.

I think with Beltran, no big prospects are going to be involved if we agree to take on his $6 million salary. And the Reds aren't asking much for Hernandez. I believe the Giants will be able to improve without digging much into the prospect bank.

Well, with Beltran, the price all depends on the demand side. If they have to, I could see the Mets giving him up for next to nothing.

How about Hunter Pence?

I think last nights events (Wilson's intro, Mets trade K-Rod) make Beltran a quite likely acquisition. I'd think for something like Runzler and Kieschnick.

Guys I wouldn't give up for Beltran: Belt, Neal, Surkamp, Peguero, Hembree, Wheeler, Westcott, Adrianza, Brown, RafRod. I think Jones and Panick are ineligible to be traded but I wouldn't part with them either.

Pence is awesome, and the exact type of player that can thrive at The Phone Booth. Great gap to gap power, good foot speed and a cannon for an arm. I would expect the prospect price to be higher than Beltran since he is younger, healthier, and arguably, a better all-around player. His prospect-price should be lower than last year around this time because he is arb eligible at the end of this year. I certainly favor it depending on the price. What are you thinking it will take? Peguero, Surkamp and Nate? Does that leave enough "expendable" pieces to get Ramon Hernandez, too?

I'm guessing it takes Neal and Surkamp to get Pence. Although I'm pulling that out of my ass, really.

Per Hunter Pence: he'd obviously take a lot more to get as he's controlled for two more years, albeit arb eligible. I'd think the Astros would be looking at Neal and Surkamp to start and even that might not be enough. This guy is going to start making big money next year (which is why the Stros want to trade him) and I'm not sure that fits in with the current budget. Remember that we've got five guys in the eight figure range next year (Zeets, Tim, Cain, RoRo, Huffy) and I'm not sure we can add another. in 2013 both Huff and RoRo come off the books, but in addition to Zeets, Tim, and Cain we'll have big contracts for Weez and Panda, possibly Song.

I think we're going to need to find OF help in the minors or mid level FA.

Well, since you're my alt, it's OUR ass, really.

Totally agree, but the 'Stros may insist on Hembree as well.

There have been Rasmus trade rumors lately. Probably a stretch, but do you think fair value for him might be: Dirty, Runzler, and Culberson? All areas of need for the Cardinals and they seem intent on letting TLR run him out of town.

That's too much for me. He's not clearly better than Nate, or what Neal might become. His minor league numbers are not great, and his major league numbers could go either way. I'd put him in the same question mark boat as Panda coming into 2011. Thus, hard to value.

A 25 year old dominating 21 years olds? Got to be skeptical of that.

Sure, but I don't think "skeptical" and "not among the top 50 minor league players in the Giants' system" are equivalent.

It's a small nit, but I'm picking it. Very willing to be wrong here.

Re Beltran, from MCC:

PECOTA believes Beltran will hit at a .290 TAv mark for the rest of the season, adding an additional +9 runs in his forecasted 262 remaining plate appearances. Given Nate Schierholtz's recent outburst and a skill set that seems best suited for right field, it seems logical for Beltran to play left, where his attributes- according to the Fans' Scouting Report- suggest he would be a +3 defender for the rest of the season (prorated to the Giants' fly ball tendencies). Add it all up, and Beltran is expected to add about 2 wins above a "replacement level" player (1.8 to be exact), meaning he'll be worth somewhere around $9MM for the rest of the season (not accounting for the added revenue for making the playoffs, of course!). Beltran is owed about $8.2MM right now, so it's essentially a wash- except he projects to be a Type A free agent, which typically gives a team a $5MM return (which is based on the average value provided by first round picks while under the team's control), giving Beltran a trade value of about $6MM.
