The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.

Attached are the results for the 2012-13 NBA All-Defensive Teams balloting. The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP

First team:
Forward - Ibaka - 46pts
Forward - James - 52pts
Center - Chandler - 24pts
Center - Noah - 24 pts (both C's named due to tie)
Guard - Tony Allen - 53pts
Guard - C. Paul - 37pts

Second team
Forward - Duncan - 20pts
Forward - Paul George - 27pts
Center - Marc Gasol - 12pts.....(named DPOY, yet gets all second team??)
Guard - Avery Bradley - 25pts
Guard - Mike Conley - 19pts

The winner is selected by a panel of 124 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada, each of whom casts a vote for first, second and third place selections

All defense has been a joke, but they mostly got it right except for the fact that Larry Sanders didn't make it, but some of the people who got votes are just mind boggling. MWP got a first team vote? MIKE JAMES? HE DOESN'T EVEN PLAY ANYMORE! Kobe? Maybe 5 years ago. I do like how the media thought Gasol was a DPOY but the coaches didn't even think he was the best defensive C.

I was unaware of that. I thought coaches had a say in the individual awards.

Other players receiving votes, with point totals (First Team votes in parentheses):
Andre Iguodala, Denver, 16 (2); Larry Sanders, Milwaukee, 16 (4); Thabo Sefolosha, Oklahoma City, 15 (2); Luol Deng, Chicago, 11 (1); Dwight Howard, L.A. Lakers, 9 (3); Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers (6 (1); Roy Hibbert, Indiana, 6 (2); Kenneth Faried, Denver, 4 (1); Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City, 4 (1); Shane Battier, Miami, 2; Nicolas Batum, Portland, 2 (1); Corey Brewer, Denver, 2; George Hill, Indiana, 2; Mike James, Dallas, 2 (1); Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio, 2, (1); Tony Parker, San Antonio, 2 (1); Dwyane Wade, Miami, 2; Metta World Peace, L.A. Lakers, 2 (1); Eric Bledsoe, L.A. Clippers, 1; Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City, 1; Jrue Holiday, Philadelphia, 1; Andrei Kirilenko, Minnesota, 1; Iman Shumpert, New York, 1; David West, Indiana, 1.

Ibaka shouldn't of been first team actually. He isn't even that good of a defender, he just blocks shot. Blocking shots isn't the only component to good defense. Camby wasn't a good defender either he just blocked shots. Ibaka will fall for the pump fake every time trying to get the blocked shot.

I think I know the answer but whats the reasoning behind the people who vote for the individual awards vs the team awards?

Even crazier is that he was third amongst centers with the Noah/Chandler tie. In reality, the DPOY didn't even make the All-D 2nd team.

Wow ..

Second team
Forward - Duncan - 20pts

Way to go but it doesnt say much about the upcoming "youth" if old man Duncan is 2nd teamer.

Duncan had the most defensive win shares (I believe) and a high defensive rating. The advance stats suggest he is the best defensive player in the league, probably for his ability to go straight up and not foul at the rim, and also because he is one of the most smartest and fundamentally sound players in the league. Duncan is definitely better defensively than Ibaka thats for sure.

I read earlier that he rode the pine for 79% of the Mavs games this year, yet got one first place vote......that's fucked up

My Defensive teams would be for First: C-Gasol F-Duncan F-Lebron G-Allen G-Paul
Second: C-Noah F-Sanders(even though he is really a C but Noah and Sanders both deserve s spot) F-George G-Bradley G-Conley.

I think larry sanders is one of the best. He had one of the best FG% down low out of all centers.. I saw a video on it lol

Lebron first team? Throw the award in the garbage. Lebron is not in the top 10 in any defensive category, rebs, blcks, steals....And is terrible man to man...This is just a popularity award...Another meaningless award voted on...let's see Lebron win a championship...So far 0

Sorry, last year was an ASTERISK. No one counts it. Still 0 for Lebron...

...Let's see Lebron win a ring without Bosh, Wade, and Ray Allen....Till he does that NO ONE'S impressed.

Every coach in the league voted for James.

Do you not understand that James needs to be prepared to defend the best player on every team, regardless of position?
