BTW - stating that this is a weak class for RBs beyond Elliot? Hmm - who actually thought that Morris would be a good RB given where he played & where he was drafted? Who is to say that other, similar backs can't be drafted this year or next? They would also be cheap since they are rookies drafted later. Why is it assumed that Morris can do this well with a low profile yet no other RB who perhaps is not on anyone's radar at this time?

Spoken like true millennium kids. If its not the latest and greatest.. i need the next new Iphone generation. Had Morris signed with Dallas for $5 million a year I might tend to agree he wasnt worth the price. But for what he got, and considering the options we have and the fact that it now means we basically NEED to draft a RB... a little sentiment might have saved us a bit of trouble in this case. Especially since our currently penciled in starter actually performed WORSE than Morris and couldnt stay healthy a single season over the last three seasons he has played football on any level.

You miss the point yet again. Sure we MIGHT find a back as capable or better than Morris and for a cheaper price. But then again we might end up stuck with the current starter who actually was NOT as good as Morris and injury prone to boot. I hear a GM saying you build through the draft and keep your own. Well guess what, we drafted Morris, he was our own, and we let him walk for what... $1.75 million a year before incentives??

Fair points no doubt, but I'm in agreement with Shark particularly at the money Alf got. And while I agree he wasn't the same RB this year compared to his rookie year. When I believe he led the NFL in making the first guy miss. Alf didn't get a whole lotta OL help last season either particularly in short yardage situations where it seemed. A DE or LB was always crashing down, splitting one of our useless OGs playing TE and an OT to get Alf in the backfield. Or an OL would flat out miss a block, in the first Cowboys game, or trip, against GB, and leave Alf out to dry.

He never complained or looked to be pouting, but at times he ran like he was unhappy or not motivated might be a better description. While he probably would never admit, I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall when the Skins were clearly giving Matt an opportunity to take the starting job his, but besides the Rams game didn't deliver.

Yeah I agree with both of you. Maybe they feel they can make it work with Piere Thomas as he does more things but I'd hate to go into the draft needing to find a RB. Chris Thompson has improved and I'm gald he is back. But he never really recovered that explosiveness he had at Florida State and can't stay healthy.

Hmm.. A GM with a proven track record is getting called out by fans. I am pretty sure that the same thing probably occurred in Seattle & SF. Before you go off the deep end how about just letting this thing play out?

We don't see Morris nor any other players on an everyday basis. We also don't have access to the scouting that the Redskins have regarding potential draft picks nor possibly any remaining FA RBs. Like I said this rebuilding process will involve getting rid of players who are fan favorites - deal with it. It is not just about getting rid of players like RG3 that folks don't like.

The true indicator on this will be where this team sits in a few years. This is not just about filling all holes for 2016 - this is a long term plan (which is quite the opposite of your claim about fans wanting everything rt away). OK - so if you have an issue with this what do you suggest - firing the GM? Every move is not going to be to the satisfaction of you, me or any fan and frankly I will take that any day of the way over the previous regimes who went out of their way to please the fans - at least on the surface.

Honestly - I believe that they need to find a new RB or two since - even if they kept Morris - you can't really trust anyone on their roster to be a go to guy for an entire season (would love to be surprised).

Got my eye on that kid Dixon from LA Tech. I think he would be a perfect compliment to Jones.

Just throwing it out there, we dont need a compliment to Jones. We need a starting RB that can stay healthy. Jones because of his health is questionable as a feature back.

When I say compliment, I mean they split carries. Backs like Washington, Bryant, Ervins, played major roles in getting us chips. In no way am I comparing Jones to Riggo, or Byner, but a combo of Jones and Dixon wouldn't hurt my feelings. Dixon to me is a perfect blend of what Jones and Thompson are.

Yep. The days of a RB leading an offense are pretty much dead. Take a look at the leading backs from last season. The majority of the guys in the top 10 played for non-playoff teams & only a handful had over 1,000 yds.

The Redskins (nor most teams) don't need a dominating back who will have a huge amt of carries every game. They need several backs who can allow the team to mix it up, carry the ball a fair amt of times & catch the ball out of the backfield. This ain't your Dad's NFL & this probably was a factor in the decision to let Morris go elsewhere.

One year of Jones does not tell the story. Give the kid a break and see how year 2 unfolds. It is pretty obvious the coaching staff is hanging their hopes that Jones can be an every down back but don't think for a minute they won't bring in another veteran along with a late RB draft pick. If SM gets his 12 picks, 1-2 of them may very well be RB's with different skill sets. Maybe we even see little Gronk here in DC with a late round pick. Could be a nice combination of FB/H-Back/TE.
