This thread is old, but this link is about yesterday's game against the Giants. (Didn't want to start a new thread, perhaps there's a better QBR debate thread I could have chosen)

"(Drops are) not all a receiver's fault... because he wanted to run before catching it, because the defense distracted him"? How is that NOT the receiver's fault? What about bad decisions to throw into coverage "because the QB didn't want to get sacked" or "because he got distracted by the pass rush"? Neither should excuse them.

"If the defender was there a half second before, the defender would have knocked the ball free and it would have been called a 'defended pass,' not a 'dropped pass.'" This one is more reasonable but saying that the ball could have been PD, shouldn't excuse a drop any more than an INT could have been an INC/COMP/TD if the defender were there half a second later.

This goes to ALL QBs, not just Smith.

I think QBR is a better stat than passer rating.

I think it's a better idea, but until they can show someone their formula and work out some of the kinks, I will be going with the passer rating. Neither of them are perfect, but there's just too little transparency in it for me. Simply speaking, I know they can't have a formula that I could enter in myself because every play is run through the computer, but they have been secretive about the formula a bit from what I hear. I don't need to know the specifics, just a consistent explanation not so subjective (a little bit cannot be avoided) If they are just trying to sell the eye-test, I can use my own eyes.

They should be able to explain Smith's 98.2 in a blowout, where 34-3 to a 41-3 game makes that much difference in winning likelhood in the fourth quarter. Then explain why Alex was so low after the Eagles game - I don't expect him to be high after the game because of when he got his stats, but not that low. If this is supposed to align with the eye-test and evens out over time, what's so different from the passer rating? What's the point of contriving a system that will just show you what you already know?

They could be close, but when a drop like Ginn's drop is explained to be concievably blamed on the QB because the receiver may have been thinking about the run (their words not mine) there is something flawed. I have to go now, but I'll be back to address any counterpoints - just know that neither is perfect and I'll give it time to adjust or show its worth to win me over. And I know how much they care about my opinion.

Really tryin' to get that to stick, huh?

Hey, blue text has been my friend for years. It's hard to not use it when I can. I didn't invent it, just saw it on another board. Do you have a better color or do you prefer the traditional - (Sarcasm)?

Lol, no biggie. Just funny to me. I prefer the plain, deadpan sarcasm. It's what I do in real life, so I like it in print. Maybe I like it because it means you have to know the poster's personality to get it, IDK.

I get misinterpretted ALL THE TIME with my sarcasm, so while blue text isn't necessary, for me it seems (sarcasm) is. I wish I could just get by without it.

Tim Tebow's QBR was 6th best in the league this week.

It may be flawed.
