Cowboys selected Baylor S Ahmad Dixon with the No. 248 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Dixon (6-foot, 212) made 38 starts for the Bears, earning first-team All-American accolades as a senior and finishing his career with four interceptions. He primarily played a linebacker-safety hybrid position, attacking downhill with aggressiveness versus the run. Although Dixon lacks elite athleticism (4.64 forty, 32-inch vertical), he's likely to be an asset on special teams and eventually in sub-packages. There is an outside chance Dixon could grow into an every-down strong safety.

He's already been fined by goddell for a hit to the head.lol. Watched Baylor 3 times last year and he was penalized in each game at least once for hits to the head. Hope he works out for you but he seemed like a douche watching him play.

Can we feed this kid a few more biscuits so he can play Will? I love his aggressiveness/attitude. One bio I read had him with experience playing a hybrid linebacker. I'm sure RM has a plan for him, has anyone heard what Dixon's role will be?

He will be on the field, special teams at the least. I think he may start by year two. This kid will rattle your cage. John Lynch wasn't the best in coverage either, but he had a pretty nice role in this scheme

A couple of these players could make it for special team. Dixon may be a good fit for what we need. I hope Johnson is not injured. I think he could be a good player In this defense if he could stay on the field. We could use some defenders that actually were dirty and hit someone

so it sounds like he can hit, but can he tackle?

& yes there is a huge difference between the two.

I hear Dixon is an upgraded Danny McCray type & will have to make his mark on special teams. I think Church job is safe, remember he was undrafted & still plays hungry.

STRENGTHS: Solidly built with adequate length and muscle definition...good straight-line athlete and fast downhill with strong hands to finish...takes sharp angles to find the quickest route from A-to-B with an accurate first step, helping with his overall range...physical striker and throws his body around in run support - fierce, violent tackler...nice job working off contact and shedding blocks to make open-field stops...confident, fearless player and not afraid to jump routes to go after the ball - carries himself with a swagger...versatile and productive experience (38 career starts), lining up at LB, NB, SS - leaves school with 288 career tackles and multiple All-Big 12 honors.

WEAKNESSES: Needs to consistently wrap on tackle attempts and not just hit his target...plays wild and needs to stay under control and balanced to make consistent stops...stiff midsection and hips, inhibiting him from quickly changing directions...struggles in man coverage to find the ball and keep his feet moving to stick with targets downfield...awareness is still a work-in-progress, too often he is a step late to the play against the pass - too many incorrect reads with questionable diagnose skills...suspect ballskills and doesn't make enough plays on the ball...undisciplined striker and will get flagged for targeting and head-hunting, going for the knockout blow...needs to keep his wits and stay under control, both physically and emotionally...character needs investigated after Sept. 2013 assault charges after repeatedly punching a fan in the face that he accused of breaking into his apartment (charges later dropped).
--Dane Brugler

The underlined is the part I would be concerned with on the field.

I really like this kid, but here is my problem. We all know we need a true FS, but none of the guys we bring in seem to be that. This kid looks like he could win a job at some point, but we really can't play him and Church together and if he beats out Church what did we really gain? I understand it is very difficult to find a safety that is good enough in run support to play the position yet also covers well enough (man and deep zone) to be a true FS, but it's like we don't even attempt to find players with that skill set. At some point maybe we should just add a couple more corners and only play one safety in the nickel defense...
