He is in the last year of his contract, and the Giants are feeling a crunch in the pen. What are the odds that he gets DFA'd when Casilla is ready to return?

He's not fooling anyone right now, so it could happen. But we all know what's going to happen: someone will get "injured" and sent to the DL, probably Affeldt himself.
I'd hate for Affledt to get DFA'd, and then find his old form with Rockies (whose bullpen has holes).
I fear the same
There's just not enough spots for players not producing - trade out of the division?

Good points, Heath, but miss 'most'? Lopez?
So you'd rather have a rotation of Cain/Sanchez/MadBum/Vogelsong/Zito than not having a guy able to generally shut down tough lefties every other game?
Granted, the drop-off from a Timmy/Chez/Cain/MadBum/Vogey rotation to a Cain/Chez/MadBum/Vogey/Zito set-up is substantial. However, with the offense struggling and the moments Lopez would be called upon, I think he would be missed most. Losing Timmy for any significant amount of time would certainly be devastating, but I find it surprising that no one even considered middle relief as a tougher blow to the pitching staff.
As I said you make a great case, and I can be persuaded (maybe it's not really possible to rank them so specifically...safe to say Lopez is among the 5 most important Giants?)
But we have actual data to look at. Last August Tim was so bad it was like we'd 'lost' him. And the team was in a death spiral until he figured it out.
Your Timmeh example is too extreme to be used. If Timmeh had been hurt instead of just bad, The G's would have used Martinez or Sosa as the replacement (which might have meant that we didnt get Lopez and/or Ramirez, btw). Instead, he just sucked balls. That is replacing a STUD with a loss, not a POSSIBLE loss. Big difference.
However, I think I agree with your assessment that, as far as pitchers go, Timmeh is the guy we can not lose. If Lopez goes down, it would hurt, but Boch would use someone else, and we are INCREDIBLY deep in the bully (Casilla, Kroon, etc).
Posey and Timmeh, hands down.
My buddies and I refer to him as "Awfeldt" now. I suspect the Runzler will be the guy sent out when Casilla returns, as he has options. Affeldt will be the blow out/mop up guy until his performance improves.
BTW: Did I see Billy Weed's picture on the back of a milk carton today?
Guillermo Mota? Is Mota Spanish for weed?
I was wondering what happened to him, myself. Haven't seen him in a game in ages.

OK...
I just Wiki'd "mota".
Does it say more about you for knowing that word, or me for NOT knowing the word?
Do I have to start hanging out with NN on his porch, now?
