Has one of the highest active career WAR at 70.7.. Great all around player with a career ops of .812.. He would be a lock now if not for his years in Seattle IMO.. I think he will make it and deserves it.. One of my favorite players in the Majors...

Edit BELTRE(goddamn keyboard)

I would probably say no, even though he is borderline... He has not yet reach any milestone stats(HRs,Runs,RBIs, Hits), he has a career .282 BA with only a career .334 OBP.

If he does reach a milestone that should get him in, but assuming he doesnt reach any, i just dont see him being a HOF... He is 570 Hits away from the 3000 mark, that should take him at least 3 seasons, but if he can do it then he will make the HOF...

I just think a .334 OBP is way to low for a HOF who has not reached any milestone stat in his career...

I think he will be. But he's also my pick for MVP, so I don't think he's done compiling offensive numbers by any means.

But look at his all-around game...he's possibly the best defensive 3B of this generation (Longoria may catch up in a few years)....that's gotta be factored in somehow.

When you combine his offense plus his defense prowess, I'd say he's probably HOF worthy.

He'll probably get in but I don't think he should.

He had a handful of really good years but I don't think he was ever consistently among the best in the league for any real length of time.

I agree that it should be factored... did not realize he is/was THAT good defensively... I just have no clue how to how to combine his value... I just cant trust WAR which takes a theoretical replacement player...

Was he better than Scott Rolen defensively??

Either way, i dont think he is one yet, although he is borderline now... I just cant look past his .334 OBP, that is just way to small for someone who will likely not hit any offensive milestones...

I can tell you that I've seen every Rangers game since he has been here, and it is obvious when he is at 3B and when he isn't. I don't know what the metrics say, but he seems to get to everything near the bag.

Why don't you think he'll hit any milestones MS?

He very well might, he is only 34 turning 35 this year... But the only one he really has a chance at is Hits... He has 570 hits to go, that will be at least 3 more seasons worth of play, but more likely 4 full seasons of play... The fact that he is an old 34, makes me wonder if he can stay healthy much longer... If he can then he should break it, especially as the American league Has the DH... But i just dont see him being healthy in the back end of his career...

Beltre's career FRAA is +182, while Rolen's is +175, so it's very close.

If he retired today, he probably wouldn't make it. Give him another 300 games in the field, and I think he could. His defensive stats will be there. Brooks made it in with his glove, and I think Beltre can at least be in the ballpark with him but have better offensive numbers. With his power, I could see him spending his last couple of years as a DH as well.

I think he's just coming into his true prime as a hitter. The run production over the last four years is among the games best, Ks are still coming down, he led the AL in base hits last year. He's been playing for what feels like forever (came up as a teenager) but he's only 35. 3000 hits and 500(less likely than 3000 hits) are both attainable.

Hard for me to see him moving to DH anytime soon. (Prince is not a good fielder either.)He's too good of a defender. I think we could see his biggest offensive season hitting behind Fielder in that potent lineup. His RBI and Run totals are definitely on pace for induction also IMO.

Well, he will likely not be good defensively for too much longer!!!
