The salary cap is projected to be $120.6 million in 2012, but the Cowboys will lose $10 million, while the Redskins will be docked $36 million in cap space, sources said.

Dallas and Washington can split the cap loss over the 2012 and '13 seasons in whatever form they prefer, with $1.6 million each going to 28 other NFL teams, the sources said.

Somewhere Hobspin is readying the template of "the $50 million in cap space is misleading. They will need almost all of it to pad for injury settlements and hot dog buns".

The Bengals have $51.6 million dollars in cap space according to Joe Reedy. They did resign Cedric Peerman and a few other backups today. Reedy says he doesn't believe we are going to resign Nelson.

You know it..... We are literally minutes away from Hobspin's annual 'why we don't really have the money to spend' free agency article. This year's version should be particularly compelling. At least in the past he could hide behind big contracts like Palmer and Johnson. With those off the books (and the threat of Palmer coming back gone), there really isn't much costing the team. Even Hobspin will have a hard time polishing this turd.

I'm looking forward to it.

Reedy also says Fanene is gone.

It looks like we're going to have to sign a bunch of guys simply to fill out a roster. Simms, Nelson, Fanene, Benson and Simpson will all likely be gone. Bobbie Williams will probably retire. We also had other guys on one year deals (Lawson for one) that might or might not re-sign.

The question is, how do we build our roster? I suspect we won't be players in the initial start of free agency. We never are. I think we'll probably do a lot of bargain basement shopping as FA progresses and then pick up a few more guys without jobs at the beginning of the summer.

In Reedy's article, he says the Bengals are about 48mil under the cap, and 10 of that will be geared towards draft picks and incentives, plus PS call-ups and other misc things..

Bengals have about 38-40 mil to spend.

Anyone want to bet they spend it wisely. What's Antonio Bryant doing these days?

Actually, according to Adam Schefter, the Bengals elected to add the 1.6 million onto next year's cap, not this year.
