Games are starting to get reported on. Some of the headliners:

Maryland @ North Carolina
Indiana @ Duke
Louisville @ Michigan State
UVA @ Ohio State
ND @ Illinois
Wisconsin @ Syracuse
Michigan @ NC State

At first glance, pretty awesome. MD/UNC could be #1 vs #2.
IU/Duke is probably two top 10 teams.
Louisville and MSU are both top 15 teams.
UVA should still be top 15. Ohio State should be top 25.
ND/Illinois should be two top 25 teams, at least IMO
Wisconsin should be a top 20 team, Syracuse will have talent and be back in the tournament I'd guess.
Michigan/NC State is also two potential top 25 teams.

Great matchups.

Georgia Tech won't participate in the challenge. Wow. BC and Va Tech chosen ahead of them.

Apparently the rule is the lowest seed in the ACC tournament to lose first is out of the Challenge. VT beat Wake in the tournament.

Ahh okay. Wasn't aware of that rule. I don't think Va Tech will be worst in the ACC next year, just thought since they had worst record they'd be left out. I actually think BC will be the worst ACC team next year. Va Tech should be much improved with another year of experience, Seth Allen and their recruiting class.

Purdue at Pitt announced last week.

Probably favors the B1G a little in that match up. Would have been nice to see Purdue play Miami as they are probably going to be the next best team past the top 7 mentioned outta the ACC.

Wisky @ SU. I have no idea what either team will have. Last year, SU struggled at the point and had no consistent three baller. Other than Christmas....who's ruling in the combine....SU is one big question mark.

And I know less about Wisconsin.

Florida St?? Blech. After playing at UNC last year that game hardly inspires anticipation.

They bring in a top 10 class and lose nobody of significance. This game will definitely help Iowa's profile next year for sure win or lose. I think Iowa may be playing "up" in this game when all is said and done.

These have been the Gophers opponents since the challenge began:

2014: Wake Forest - 13-19(5-13 in ACC)
2013: Florida State - 22-14(9-9)
2012: Florida State - 18-16(9-9)
2011: Virginia Tech - 16-17(4-12)
2010: Virginia - 16-15(7-9)
2009: Miami - 20-13(4-12)
2008: Virginia - 10-18(4-12)
2007: Florida State - 19-15(7-9)
2006: Clemson - 25-11(7-9)
2005: #20 Maryland - 19-13(8-8)
2004: Florida State - 12-19(4-12)
2003: Virginia - 18-13(6-10)
2002: Georgia Tech - 16-15(7-9)
2001: #25 Wake Forest - 21-13(9-7) - Decent opponent(7 seed in NCAA's lost by double digits to 10 seed Butler)
2000: Florida State - 9-21(4-12)
1999: Virginia - 19-12(9-7)

The Gophers have played FSU FIVE times, UVA FOUR times, played Maryland and Ga. Tech in years they weren't any good, played only two opponents that were ranked at the time, only played ONE NCAA Tournament team, and have played ZERO opponents who have finished ranked. That's the definition of shitty opposition. But you can't blame anybody but the Gophers, they haven't really warranted playing a good opponent b/c they usually aren't good. :L

Haha holy shit! Actually worse than I thought. I knew we had FSU back to back years and a lot overall and remember Virginia when Nolen got hurt but man i didn't know it was actually this bad for so many years. Maryland is the only strong program even. Wow.

That was actually Dave Odom's last year at Wake. FWIW, Wake was very good early on that year. They destroyed Kansas by 30 points and were ranked as high as #4 in the country in January. They fell apart near the end of the year and were down by 33 points at halftime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Odom was then forced out by the AD and Skip Prosser was hired.

It looks like that Wake team was the only NCAA Tournament bound team that Minnesota has faced in the challenge so far.

edit: wait it looks like we got the years mixed up. 2001/02 (the challenge is played in late November/early December) was Skip Prosser's first year, so that Wake team was actually a last second shot away from making the Sweet 16.

I'm also obviously a bit biased but I think Wake from 1990 to 2005 (you could even stretch that as far as to 2010 if you'd like, but 2006-2008 were definitely down years) should be classified as a good program.

missed the Wake/Rutgers game...Wake by 1?...were all of their starters sick or something?
Minny looked really good against an athletic Clemson squad...Gophers gonna shake the can this year.
calling UNC, UVA, NCS, PUR, NW, MIA, DUKE, MSU, SYR, ILL, IOWA, BC (final tote: ACC8/B1G6)
re: MSU...there are 4 teams guaranteed to sour Spartan milk, regardless of the circumstances: Duke, UNC, UConn and fucken Louisville!
hell, I'm already on a 24-hr TUMS® drip.
luck everybody!
