based on the Bengals draft board..

it's just a general philosophy

Again, considering the Bengal's draft AND record of the past 20 years, I wouldn't put too much stock in their draft board. Especially not enough to say, if the Bengals thought it was the right pick, then I have no complaints.

The past 20 years don't matter. The past 2 we have been fantastic. All the analysts are raving about our picks this year. Talking about might be the best in the NFL.

We don't use the TE. When given the opportunity, Gresham made plays last season Lee couldn't dream of making.

You may not like Gresham, but don't be ridiculous and say the team may have been better with Lee than him.

Furthermore, to the point of this draft, considering we use the TE more for blocking than catching, it doesn't make sense to grab a TE this early in the draft with so many other needs and already having Gresham and Lee.

I think they drafted him to fill a niche...not be an inline TE. Look for him to be used in more of a Dallas Clark role. Dude is athletic, physical and fast. If Gruden is a good OC he'll find a way to get him on the field with Gresham

We DID use a TE more for that. With Gruden here another year I think we will see a lot more 2TE sets where they go out on routes.

I doubt it. We didn't look for 1 TE most times, no reason to believe we'll start sending 2 on routes.

I see flaming and august have been incorrect/upset about every pick. hell, these goons even had a 78% list of players that would be taken at 17 and 21...and all of their 'locks' missed.

I also find it funny they are upset by taking a sweet TE, and drafting 2 DTs. This has been a great draft

Geathers is going to be released.

Whatever issues the Bengals have had with their drafts in the past, is the solution to stat picking players who are lower on the board?

Early in the draft when you have your pick of elite prospects, you can place more a of a premium on positions of need..

around pick 120? grab the guy with the best chance of sticking on a roster and contributing to the team in the long run..

Gresham is good and I still think he has upside, but he's not Jimmy Graham

No reason for him to be banned yet. Hasn't done anything. Also does anyone else see Burfict coming in the 5th for us?

I hope not. Seems like a total POS dirtbag. Had my fill of those guys. They're finally drafting players like Zeitler and Sanu. Jenkins I could've lived with if he was there in teh 2nd but with Burflict the risk is not worth the reward.

I hope they don't but it seems like the Bengals pick we have been waiting for. But hell he was being predicted as a mid 1st round pick at one point.

Great pick and value. Dude was highly rated on all boards pre-DUI.

So if a QB was the next highest graded player on their board, you would have been in favor of them drafting a QB?

How about another DT?

BPA is good, but not at the expense of entirely neglecting needs. By the time you get this late in the draft anyways, very little separates one player from another. "BPA" becomes simply rhetoric at that point.

What needs do you see? We have no room for another DE nor a LB'er. They like the S's we have. A good pass catching 2nd TE is a need. And yeah I would pick a QB at this point. We need a backup.

S, LB and to a lesser extent RB and DE are all needs before TE. An argument could be made for another WR before TE as well.

Which LB'er is getting cut to make a spot for this rookie? Same with D-Lineman and WR? None are. A 2nd TE is probably more important in the NFL today than a 2nd WR.

And they aren't picking a S. We all know they like the guys we have so that isn't a need to them.

QB an exception because, barring injury, only one should see the field..

and you can also point out an anomoaly like drafting a DT in the 4th after picking players at that position in the prior two rounds..

but most of the players in the mid to late 4th rd won't be on an NFL roster a few yrs... you can't afford to be too selective at that spot
