I think Marvin has his merits.... I think he gets a lot out of players. It always seems to me that his teams play hard and there isn't a ton of drama like there is in other cities. I just don't think he's particularly good on game day. In a lot of ways, he seems like a great coach to take over a bad football team. I think he would be good in that role - He was for us.

I disagree that Rex is a bad coach. He took a very average football team with a shitty rookie qb and took them deep into the playoffs -- Twice.

He's shown tremendous ability to develop game plans that frustrate other teams even when his team is overmatched -- Look what he's done to the Patriots at times.

He has two major factors going against him. One is that he is a clown. He likes drama and can't seem to keep his mouth shut. Two is that he hasn't developed any offensive talent. It's hard for me to know how much the second problem is his fault. The Jets have always had a GM -- Shouldn't they shoulder the blame?

BTW -- How can you say the Jets were in good shape when he took over? He took over for Eric Mangini!

his first 2 years were good, and it was all downhill from there. so he inherited a program that someone developed. it takes time to develop a program, you don't immediately convert a program just by walking into the door.

The reason the Jets went in the tank so fast was that they got rid of their high character guys and brought in a bunch of clowns like Holmes, and tried to change their offense from run first to a pass happy offense.

Rex is very good at defensive X and O's and his players like him, but I don't think he's cut out to be a good head coach, he only cares about his defense, and has no interest in dealing with his offense.

yes, basically.

he has potential, but shouldn't be in charge of any offense whatsoever.

When it has mattered, Rex has kicked Marvin's ass.
