The king of Crash, the Sultan of Swat. Considered by many to be the GOAT. However, let’s look at the list of career home runs at the year of 1936

1. Babe Ruth 714
2. Lou Gherig 383
3. Jimmy Foxx 307
4. Rogers Hornsby 300

Now, to be fair, Gherig ended up hitting 493 in his career, but even if you cede that.. 714 to 493. That’s Ruth amassing 31% more HR’s than anyone else in history up to that point…

People can try to downplay Ruth as far as how he would compare to modern players and pitching, but that's completely dishonest because modern players have the benefit of modern training techniques, modern weight training, modern nutritional knowledge, modern supplements... Ruth played in an era and simply crushed all others by an astronomical rate as far as HR hitting.

Babe Ruth had a big gap to the average player that will never be matched again, then there is the wOBA to consider. IMG_1576.png

Then size does matter. I used StatHead with their filters to get this information. Big Babe Ruth was the perfect superstar in the perfect storm for the 1920-1939 decades.

He is similar to Michael Jordan & Wayne Gretzky in that they were so far ahead of their peers at the time, that they will probably always be know as the GOAT...

Interesting how the NFL now has Tom Brady - but anyone could argue for Lawrence Taylor, Jerry Rice, and Jim Brown...

Gretzky yeah.. MJ? He’s no clear cut GOAT, certainly a major player in the discussion though. Same with Brady.

I think Wilt was the GOAT for a minute, although there were debates between him and Bill Russell so I guess not as clear cut.
