I mean ratings are ratings. Not really something up for debate.lol

Talk about putting a turbocharger on being wrong.

TV ratings have been down everywhere
Every single sport has suffered in tradition TV ratings, including the all powerful NFL.
And It has nothing whatsoever to do with Lebron changing teams.
1) Technology choices and Viewing habits have radically changed
We consume streaming services. We watch highlights on our phone. We don't ever sit around and watch much live events anymore.
NBA related Youtube video channels have TRIPLED in total viewership for example.
You routinely see 1 million views of video using NBA 2K live video games to simulate Lebron vs Jordan debates with 10,000s of comments in the
comment section. They draw massive advertising dollars for that type of NBA content.
2) Cable Bundling Fees are more important than ratings every year, often at odds with ratings development
Most sports are part of premium bundling packages. You can toss things like local NBA coverage or baseball with unrelated channels like a cooking channel in various bundles. This enables massive rights fees with the expectation of reduced TV ratings.
2) Donald Trump effect
Trump dominates the live airwaves. Everyone spent the last year wondering what controversy or showdown was happening next. Our god damn election took 9 freaking weeks instead of 1 day. Nothing can outcompete the political audidence of the Trump era on television.
