They could be a Super Bowl team. Take away Jimmy G's 3 INT's (one for a TD), and the Niners played them pretty close.
Hey that pic came just in the nick..

That's why Noggin has his rule for rooks, "homer in a game and then sit on the bench the next game."

Sad for the young man.

What else can go wrong this season?

18 games to find out.

The Giants are getting some separation from Anaheim and Washington are gaining ground on the Toronto/Mets/Minnesota group. If they do that they will be in the top 10 group and close to getting to the 7th spot.

Baltimore 41-102 -

San Diego 56-88 14.5
White Sox 56-87 15

Cincinnati 61-82 20
Texas 61-82 20
Toronto 65-78 24

Soooo, claims that we're a .500 team have been greatly exaggerated.

Thanks. Didn’t see this yet when I posted.

How long was Runzler out for?

Not as long as I thought. He returned to rehab 33 days after the initial injury and was conveniently added back to the roster on September 1. As Stokes noted (in jest) he never really returned. IDK if that was the knee, the league figuring him out or something else.

This research got me thinking, though. So Runzler was injured in 2010, after making the Opening Day roster as the second lefty behind Affeldt. The injury occurred on July 9 and the team recalled Joe Martinez to take his spot, but was sparsely used as a long man. So the Giants went the rest of July with just one lefty.... until July 31 when the team acquired Javier Lopez.

Do the Giants still go after Javy if Runzler doesn't get hurt? Dan was.... pretty solid that year. He wasn't really a LOOGY, but he was tough to hit and ranked up the K's. He gave the team enough reason to be comfortable as a 2nd lefty/6th inning guy.

Maybe Sabes still makes that trade and sends Runzler down to AAA, but holy smokes if Runzler stayed healthy and they didn't go after Javy, does the team win the World Series, or go on to build a dynasty? Just another point that shows how random baseball is. As we like to joke about here sometimes, was Runzler one of the sacrificial lambs that is now haunting us now?
