I do agree that batting average is overrated, but if OBPs are equal, I'll take the guy with the higher batting average (unless the other guy is killing it in slugging).

Yeah I was just looking at his stats. Not done yet, and he finally landed in a good ballpark after going through AT&T and Petco.

Also, he was great in 2011. Wonder he was going on that year.

However, his on base is pretty pedestrian. Of course, I doubt the Phillies are going to quibble considering the rest of that team's hitting abilities.

Baseball is a funny thing. The skinny "singles" hitter has the higher slugging percentage while the strapping slugger has the higher on base percentage.
