I disagree about Bum. He needs to be stretched out. He hit the wall last year and was worthless in the post season. He needs to know how to pitch past 200 IP.

Fair point.

I would also:

1) If it is still an option, DL Scoots to get his finger taken care of.

2) If Crawford is still hurting, bring up the SS from Fresno.

It will all happen next week anyway.

As you know, I have been tracking a bunch of team stats on an Excel spreadsheet. I saw this tonight and hadn't really paid attention to it.

Before the ASB, the Giants had a Shut down inning 80.4% of the time, which is very good. (168/209)

After the ASB, the Giants had a Shut down inning only 61.1% of the time, which is terrible! (33/54)

Something else,

Before the ASB, the Giants scored in 2.22 innings per game (209/94)

After the ASB, the Giants scored in 1.64 innings per game (54/33)

Agree on both accounts. Scoots needs to be babied. Let him have surgery on the finger and let him do what he needs to do with his back.

We need to play Noonan and Adrianza as much as possible since the will both be in the picture for the second Util spot next season.

I BELEVE Adrianza is out of options, so we need to get an idea about his bat anyway.

Noggin's view of "a lot" seems at variance with normal usage.

With Pags on the club now, it will be tough to get RK, Pags and Pill all time in the lineup. I care more about Pags or RK than Pill, though.

How can he be out of options, he hasn't been with the big club yet, has he? Or are the minor league options, too?

He was supposed to be all glove and no hit, but is hitting quite well (SSS) at Fresneck. I saw him in a couple of games last summer, and he is slick in the field, and has some wheels. I read that he compared to Vizquel. Wouldn't that be great?

Pirates 1-4 hitters are 8-13, 5 Runs, 6 RBIs, 3 walks.

Giants 1-4 hitters are 2-12, 2 Runs, 3 RBI, 2 walks.

Skimming through posts quickly, I saw Giants, hitters, and 1-4 and thought hey that's an improvement, I hope that 1 was an xbh

Silver linings is all I'm begging for at this point

We are now tied with the Madres, but they hold the breaker. We currently hold he #9 pick.

Once you get added to the 40, you spend 1 option each season you play in the minors on a non-rehab assignment. He has been on the 40 for 3 or 4 years now (we signed him YOUNG).

I have heard mixed reports on his bat. He has never put up good numbers, but he was always about 2 years too young for his level, so his bad numbers had the possibility if being skewed. This year almost qualifies as a breakout with the bat.

Thanks, I came across this from 2011: Taub Sports: Giants roster- option years left

He was signed as a 16 year old. Wow! He is now 24. Long time to spend in the minors.

Who are our minor league hitting instructors? If they cannot help this kid get better, what the heck are they doing? And why aren't we developing better hitters?

To be fair, I have been mostly pleased with Crawford's bat this year. (His glove has slipped some, but I wonder how much the jammed fingers affected that.)

The fingers affected everything for Craw. He went into a serious funk at the plate for about 6 weeks after he jammed his hand. Have to figure it affected his fielding as well. A leas a bit.

I think the primary hitting coach is Decker...

So why have the Giants been so lax about health this year? I mean, if a guy has a broken finger, DL him and let him heal. Isn't two months of a totally healthy player better than five months of an injured player?

They did it with Pagan, who eventually went down, as he kept playing even though he wasn't right. Scutaro, Crawford, Panda, etc. Is it the medical staff's preference to "play through it"? How much weight (non-Panda variety) does the player's opinion have about going on the DL or playing through it? It sure seems we wasted a lot of time with players who were only 60% or so. This team is so finely balanced that it takes all the cogs and wheels being 100% to even compete. And when 3-4 cogs/wheels are 60%, how is allowing them to keep playing helping the club?

We are talking about this with 20/20 hindsight. Players are rarely at 90%, let alone 100%. If we DL or rest anyone who is dinged, we would be lucky to win 60 games.

If we had DL'd Craw, who plays in his stead? Abreu? Noonan? Arias? How about Scoots? We over paid Scoots because he is a starter. Not because we have 3 guys in the org who an fill in for him with little to no drop off.

I get that guys are never 100% over a long season, but with injuries that really hamper performance, like with Scoots and Crawford, is it really best to keep them playing every day? And when they can't perform up to their own standards, and start pressing harder, and doing worse with limited physical ability, what sort of damage does that do?

I thought at the time we ought to DL both Scoots and Crawford, but I understand, I guess, why they weren't DL'ed. Sure seems to have happened quite a bit this year. Buzzard's luck and all that. They curse of the odd year for the orange and black.

I understand where you are coming from, but I disagree. Scoots was putting up some very nice offensive numbers when he got hit. And Scoots at 60% is better than Noonan at 150%. He also did not WANT to go to the DL. If he went down, it would have been a 60 stint, not just a 15 stint.

The giants were exposed for their lack of depth this year

Every team has weaknesses. Ours was that we are/were top-heavy.

In the right situation, that is a strength. In the wrong situation, that is a weakness.
