Not a huge fan of subjective stats. Just treat all pitchers like a reliever.Leave it up to the official scorer?

disagree....any SP who can't go five deserves no win.Starter needs to go 5 for a win, right?
That rule needs to be removed.
Yet a reliever throwing 1 pitch does?disagree....any SP who can't go five deserves no win.
I'm curious how Kontos got the win and not Lopez. Scorer's discretion? Given to pitcher who finishes the 5th inning? Giants already had the lead on the top of the 5th inning.Yet a reliever throwing 1 pitch does?
The win is flawed at the most basic level. So just make it consistent for all pitchers and be done with it.
Again I disagree. I think it should ONLY be available to pitchers who go at least 5 innings.Yet a reliever throwing 1 pitch does?

once the SP leaves the game before the end of the 5th with a lead, its scorers discretion unless the team loses the lead.I'm curious how Kontos got the win and not Lopez. Scorer's discretion? Given to pitcher who finishes the 5th inning? Giants already had the lead on the top of the 5th inning.
If the starter does not go 5, it reverts to scorers discretion if the starter "earned" the win (except that the starter is not eligible for the win).I'm curious how Kontos got the win and not Lopez. Scorer's discretion? Given to pitcher who finishes the 5th inning? Giants already had the lead on the top of the 5th inning.
Sure it does. Any pitcher must go five to get a win. Now, awarding a win to a pitcher who DOESN'T go five innings makes no sense to me.I think you only agree with that "rule" because you grew up with that, or it's tradition.

But if you start with a clean slate, there is no way you come up with that rule. It just makes no objective sense.

Your reasoning is circular and therefore inadmissible. It amounts to "because I said so". It will be stricken from the record and the jury will give it no weight.Sure it does. Any pitcher must go five to get a win. Now, awarding a win to a pitcher who DOESN'T go five innings makes no sense to me.

There is nothing inherent in the game of baseball that says the SP must go five to get a win.
