I was in Pasadena when the Rodney King verdicts came down, and the riots, er, uprising went down in South Central. We weren't that far away, and it was pretty quiet in Pasadena, but that was some crazy stuff going on for several days.

My favorite scene (had to have some humor in the darkness) was a news helicopter hovering over a TV and appliance story in South Central. People were looting the store. A guy drove up on like a 1980 Cadillac, double parked, left the car running (for a quick getaway I suppose), went into the store, came out with this large TV. He could barely handle it. He put it in his trunk, and if that weren't enough, he went back in for more. As soon as he went in, these young, er, gentlemen, came along and stole his car. The guy came out with another big TV, and was looking all over for his car. Priceless.
