That reminds me of how they started the season 7-3 and Red Sox fans were all excited. Then they went 26-40 until this recent 10-whole-games hot streak.

Zen master: we'll see

That division is crazy. 5.5 games top to bottom. It would not surprise me to have any of the teams win it, or finish in the basement.

Listening to 98.5, they replayed some shit form ESPN lkast night

Buster olney

“the red sox are hot, won 8 of 10, and are the best team in the AL east”

He said “the front office is leaning towards a rental like johnny cueto, ive heard that from multiple sources. They are also doing this without pedroia, and when he comes back…its like picking up a top FA bat. Im buying the red sox”

I'm not buying it, Rock! And it's not their style to surrender top prospects(which it would take to get Cueto) for a rental on a team that isn't even in the mix as of today.

Yup. That is exactly what I said before the season. I'm fully expecting the Yankees to get Hamels or Cueto at the deadline to try and distance themselves from the pack.

If I was the Phillies, I'd be trying to work a deal to get Hamels and Howard in pinstripes.

That would be a stroke of magic if Amaro could make that happen. The Yankees already have the white Ryan Howard in Teixeira(yes, I know Teixiera is having a good year).

That's bullshit. Howard is the black Adam Dunn.

Seriously though, nobody needs Howard a fraction of the amount that the Phillies need to get rid of him. They're either going to have to eat practically all of the $48MM left on his contract, or literally get nothing in return - fuck, at this point, without eating some significant portion of Howard's salary, they may have to package other players with Howard to get anyone to take him.

My thought is if they could create enough urgency for the Yankees to act on Hamels, they'd make them take Howard along with him. The Yankees are the team that could most easily absorb Howard's contract. I understand it would not be an easy sell.

Ryan Howard is a DH who can't hit lefties to save his life and will make $32MM/yr for the rest of his contract.

That shit isn't going anywhere unless they work some serious magic. Also, Rubtard Amaro Jr isn't the guy to pull that off.

Well....it wasn't that long ago that Teixiera was the white Ryan Howard. But he has reversed course with his "bust out" season at age 35(nothing to see here)! But the Yankees just can't use him. They have Teixeira for 2 more years, while also having Arod for 2 more years and Beltran for another year. The last thing they need is Ryan Howard. Even if they can afford the contract.

Maybe a team like the Giants would take Howard??? They always seem to need bats. But if we are looking for an AL team to take him(for DH purposes), how about TB? I don't see a good fit anywhere, honestly.

I didn't say anything about the Yankees wanting or keeping him. I talked about the Phillies dumping him on them.

That's my point. There is no fit for a $32MM/yr DH who can't hit lefties. If the Phillies could pull it off, a palatable option could be to package him with something that a team really wants. Like pitching. A team that doesn't care about chucking away money on some stupid stuff.

Just a thought. Otherwise, Howard's not going anywhere unless the Phillies package him with about $40MM

I used to fuck with Phillies fans big time by comparing the Dunn and Howard -- this is back when they were both good. Phillies fans would lose their shit, then I'd put up the numbers. They were a lot more comparable than folks would think. Howard had a little more power, Dunn a little more patience.
