I have a journalism degree (from a university that actually requires grammar classes, no less), and I often need reminders, too. To be honest, I didn't even notice it until tzill's joke. I only put the emoticon at the end because I like it.

My niece graduated from UCSB with a degree in drinking, er, "communications." Guess how many public speaking classes she had to take? None. Nada. Zilch. What the hell has happened to public education when you can graduate with a communications degree and not have to take public speaking? And this was before Twitter, and Facebook, etc.

At her first job interview, they asked if she had ever done public speaking. She said "no". Interview was over.

The main reason why I didn't go to college in California was because UCs don't have a journalism degree and CSUs rarely remain accredited. You're right that a communications major is a joke at most universities, but like most things (especially degrees), you get out of it what you put into it. My wife complained about the journalism program at Poly and ended up with a couple of really cool internships (by SLO standards) because of it.

Buildings are evacuated. People are not, unless they're having a medical procedure done.
